I'm curious as to "why" the layoffs didn't almost immediately happen. Is Bungie/Sony planning to look at the response to these events to attempt to justify greenlighting or not greenlighting projects based on customer reactions?

I don't think the IP can be declared eternally dead, but this was never a put Destiny 2 down, pick Destiny 3 up and keep going situation. If D3 ever does happen they'd have to staff up significantly again

I'm sure I'm on copium, but is "..and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2" not directly implying that there's something for Destiny in the works after D2 lol?
I'm sure whatever it is could easily get cancelled, but for the time being I'm not sure how we're interpreting it this way

They made it explicitly clear there is 0 possibility at Destiny 3 “While our love for Destiny 2 has not changed, it has become clear that after The Final Shape, we have reached the time for our shared worlds, and Destiny, to live beyond Destiny 2”
