@razgon49318 I actually run a factory in China. The local authorities are very strict with regards to safety. Also, the GM and designated safety officer (as well as the company) both maintain personal liaibility for accidents.

@DanielDumbrill It's blatently immoral (and usually ineffective) to attempt to immiserate your counterparty's population in order to "win". How can anyone hear this andnot be appalled? Where has this thinking gotten us so far?

These past few years have given everyone an incredible opportunity to see what lies beneath the mask. From their standpoint, I suppose it’s a logical move. They used to pretend to be friends of the Chinese people, speaking directly to them about “liberating” them. Now that the absurdity of this farce is comically obvious, there’s no point keeping up the act. They can finally admit what they always wanted: to destroy China and the livelihoods of its people.

“I think blocking the Strait of Hormuz is fine…if no oil ever goes to China again, and their economy is destroyed, that would be a really wonderful day for me." -Senator Rick Scott The US’ playbook as a responsible hegemon promoting global stability is to try and destroy the second largest economy in the world, China🇨🇳, to unleash a global economic depression… If there has ever been a clearer indication for the need for a multipolar world, it’s this.

@Eivor_Koy A secondary effect of this type of US rhetoric is that Americans naturally assume Chinese officials and media spew similar anti-American rhetoric. The Americans don't understand that China has a more civilized government, so they don't.

This video is quite popular on Chinese social media right now. Many Chinese are watching how some U.S. politicians make these kinds of strongly worded comments about other nations and their citizens in public. Definitely not the strongest PR moment for the United States🧐

@LarryBoorstein @War_Radar2 And that blockade will have a small and dwindling impact on China's economy. Other countries will endure crises while China will see it a a disruption.

@War_Radar2 Even though the US Navy vessels implementing the blockade of Iranian oil exports to China will be near the Strait of Hormuz, the US blockade ordered by Donald Trump will be of the same effect as blockading the coast of China to deny entry of Iranian oil.

🇺🇸🇨🇳 Trump Gives BIG Shock to China According to reports, China will be hit hardest by the U.S. naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz ordered by Donald Trump, as nearly 60–80% of Iran’s oil exports go to China. Any disruption in the Strait could directly impact China’s energy supply and send shockwaves across global markets. A single chokepoint, massive global consequences.

@War_Radar2 Only about 7% of China's overall energy demand is filled by Iranian oil. The rest is filled by oil & gas from Russia and elsewhere, from China itself, from coal, from nuclear and, increasingly, from renewables. For China, it will be maneagable for a while, at least.

That's a long way from the old communist slogans which these yellow-on-red banners used to sport in 20th century. These days many are simply public service announcements (like "Take care of the old" and "Littering is not patriotic"), but especially one the right is another level. "Pretty girls add you as a friend and first ask for money, then say there were some data errors, step by step they'll scam you of everything you have"
Caillan@chinafutureclub

In China you see giant red banners warning people about scams. This one translates to don’t fall for women promising to sleep with you. Anti-scammer awareness is good.

Why on earth would China follow in the steps of Donald Trump and launch an unprovoked attack against another nation? China is winning 2026 as the US continues to make mistake after mistake, launching an attack is literally the last thing China would do. What an embarrassment to be this far removed from reality 🤦🏻‍♂️
Gordon G. Chang@GordonGChang

Evidence is quickly mounting that China is planning to launch its own version of 9/11 against America.

@JTLonsdale @ELewisELC So... no evidence of foul play, just the banal coincidence of his death following a dispute with regulators. They could have simply cancelled the IPO (as they did with Ma). With all due respect, I think you might want to examine how critically you're thinking here.

@d_levy @ELewisELC His family would be under threat to say anything. I’m sure it was just a coincidence he died after saying no, right before he would have become a liquid billionaire. Just like scores of other coincidences of less aligned billionaires’ car accidents and deaths. Unlucky people.

Those Initiatives are not examples of interference. Grok explains them: "The Global Development Initiative (2021) promotes sustainable growth in developing nations; Global Security Initiative (2022) emphasizes multilateral security; Global Civilization Initiative (2023) advocates mutual respect among cultures; and Global Governance Initiative (2021) pushes reforms in international institutions."

.@xueqinjiang says, laughably, that “It is the nature of the Chinese government NOT to interfere in foreign affairs.” He goes on to argue: “China doesn't really have a geopolitical framework, a grand strategy. It really believes in global trade.” @TuckerCarlson nods along.

@henrysgao @tabletmag So, China successfully deploys resources (incl. subsidies) to grow the industries of the future. Didn't the US try to do this (with less success) by tariffing & embargoing China? Also, your zero-sum analysis ignores the effects of AI-enabled productivity on consumption.

Agreed: journalism is NOT a crime and should not be criminalized. As it happens, Jimmy Lai has has not been charged with "journalism", but with real, honest-to-goodness crimes. He acted on behalf of a foreign country to hurt his own. He aided and abetted. He was found guilty in a HK court. He's guilty and should NOT be free.

Jimmy Lai should be free, not sitting in a Hong Kong jail.  I stand with Sebastian and Claire Lai in calling for their father to be given his freedom. Journalism is not a crime; China must respect this right per the ICCPR.

Do you realize that anyone can come to China and go anywhere? That they can visit poorest areas and take all the pictures they want? What's this nonsense about "what you don't see is...". or "What they won't show you is...". The fact is poverty has not been eliminated in China, but *extreme" poverty has. The rural poor are are living better and better lives as infrastructure and social services improve. There are some dreary, ugly, places in China. In the cities, suburbs and rural areas. But the people living there, including the poor, are seeing improvements in their living standards that many other countries should envy.

The CCP loves to tout that they have “lifted millions out of poverty.” But the reality is much more complicated. Former CIA analyst Robert Suettinger reveals why the cracks in China’s Communist system go much deeper than you think: “They have [lifted millions out of poverty] as a result of the modernization of the Chinese economy, as a result of an enormous amount of foreign direct investment coming into China.” “You go anywhere in China, and you can see new buildings, new railroads, new urban development.” “What you don’t see is what Li Keqiang talked about.” “A long time ago, he said that in the Chinese population of 1.4 billion… at least 600 million people still live below the poverty line.” “We don’t see that part of China.” “That’s where the real Chinese live.” “Now, in this Chinese New Year… many of those people who worked in urban areas have gone back… to their home villages to celebrate the Chinese New Years.” “Many of them are not gonna be able to come back to the urban areas because there’s no jobs for them there.” “And the Chinese government doesn’t want you to know that either.” “So those people may have bought a one-way ticket back out to their home villages.” “I’m not trying to say it’s a myth.” “I’m not trying to say those people have not risen, but the numbers are not as impressive as you might want to think.”
