Depends on the amount of "dead air". If a streamer is playing a game and the commentary is sporadic, then it's best to have some sort of ambient music playing. If they're just having a discussion with their chat, probably not. The key takeaway is the music should be more ambient/background so that it doesn't distract but it also fills the dead air.

im curious: when watching a stream do you prefer if a streamer is playing music or just having no music

After playing PoE, I think GGG cracked the code and it's actually very simple. Don't try to monopolize peoples time. Let players "finish" a season and have them wanting to come back for more later. Studios are failing because they're too greedy to let go of players so burnout and "falling behind the meta" become players exit memory.

Battlefield 6 down 90% Marvel Rivals down 80% Arc Raiders down 75% Keep going and it's the same story. While no game is ever going to maintain it's peak it feels like once these games have attention, they can't keep it, or actively destroy it.

We shouldn't ignore the fact Helldivers 2 managed to sell 12 million copies in 4 months, but in the 2 years since, it was only able to sell another 2 million copies. It's crazy how quickly live service games snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Rhys Elliott@superhys

List of Xbox and Sony games on Steam that have sold 1M+ (@alineaanalytics, games released 2023 onwards) Full write-up is in Substack (link in bio), but here's some highlights: - Helldivers 2 has sold 14.5M copies (!!!) on Steam alone, generating close to half a billion dollars there. It launched simultaneously on PS5 and Steam in February 2024, a decision that’s aged pretty well. Steam now accounts for two-thirds of the game’s lifetime audience. And our data shows that Helldivers 2 still regularly pulls 500K daily active users on Steam alone, well into its third year on the market. - Starfield has sold 3.8M copies on Steam, passing $200M in revenue from copies alone. Bethesda’s day-in-date launch did its job, and the audience composition is largely legacy: 60% played Fallout 4 previously, 51% played Skyrim Special Edition. Reception was mixed, and the long tail has been quieter than Bethesda would like, but the launch revenue justified the day-one PC commitment. - Oblivion Remastered has moved 2.7M copies on Steam, almost $110M in gross revenue. The Steam version has outsold the combined PS5 and Xbox console totals by a factor of two, a striking outcome given the title was a day-one Game Pass release on Xbox. The legacy fanbase data here is even more pronounced than Starfield’s: 75% of Oblivion Remastered’s Steam buyers had played Skyrim Special Edition, 64% had played Fallout 4, and 44% had played Fallout New Vegas. Bethesda properties on Steam continue to operate as a connected catalogue. - The Last of Us Part II came to Steam roughly a year ago, during the HBO show's second season’s run, and has since moved 1.2M copies. Because of that direct release timing into the show’s peak attention window, the Steam version of Part II is actually selling faster than Part I did at the same launch-aligned point. This is the first PlayStation port where transmedia momentum has done the heavy lifting rather than novelty, and it is a model Sony will want to replicate. - Stellar Blade has sold 2.3M copies on Steam, generating $114M, Despite launching about a year after the PS5 version, Stellar Blade on Steam is closing in on the PS5 version’s 2.5M units. 45% of Stellar Blade’s Steam audience is Chinese, off the back of a deliberate Chinese-language dub and aggressive regional pricing on Valve’s platform. Stellar Blade is, in effect, a second-party PlayStation game that found an audience PlayStation cannot easily reach on its own hardware. Lots of thoughts. BIG analysis on Substack (link in bio)

The mistake most women make is they think they can buy relationships with sex. The only men that might work on are men those women don't want anyway. Not a single woman will listen to this but if you really want to get married display high levels of skill in things that men want in a wife (and mother of their children). See how he reacts to THOSE actions and you'll know where you stand with him.

I was sitting across the table from a man. Great on paper. A gentleman that asked me on a date when I was late one day to Pilates and ran in like a headless chicken. Treated me well. Took me to the spa for a second date. Sushi the first. He told me not to go out with the athlete cuz I wanted to watch an NBA game. He was bold and direct. 6’, six figures, prestigious college, fit, blah blah blah I was irritated though because he was asking for exclusivity even though he admitted he had FWBs He told me he was going to leave them. But it was repulsive to me. It was messed up that there’s some woman out there sleeping with him for nothing and he’s on the dinner date reservation with me. For all I know they might’ve wanted something real with him. Idk. The worst reality was that there are beautiful, caring women out there giving access to themselves to him because he existed. Not because he did anything for them. Sexual attention is not a flex. It’s actually a woman’s biggest expense if she doesn’t know how to handle it. Casual sex is the biggest scam. People invest their souls just to be disrespected. And this whole time it’s been framed as “empowerment.”

If Bungie doesn't make it significantly easier for people to finish their Faction Upgrades then the game won't make it to a 3rd season. For seasonal games you want people to "quit" when they feel like they've "finished" not when they feel like they are content blocked or the grind is too long. Players that stop from "lack of content" will come back the next season to see what's been added. Players that quit because they played for 70 hours and never unlocked blue shields because they only found 2 biolens won't come back.

As June slowly approaches, Marathon's players are facing with the reality of a complete clean slate to their progress. Wipes are part of extraction shooters, but it's jarring to those completely new to the genre. Will this be the final nail on the coffin?

Majority of Asian American women date either Asian or White men because thats the majority in their college and professional circles. Then they get “their type” from what they’ve experienced the most. Like men do. In my own personal experience, only white men directly approached me in undergrad for whatever reason even though I was surrounded by a majority of Asian men in my major. It wasn’t until I got older that Asian men with established careers started directly approaching in the “white guy” style that I was “used to”. Asian women dating outside their own race doesn’t mean self hate. It’s just preference from their lived experiences. And half the time she says stuff, it’s just facetious. Women will date a man who isn’t their physical type if he treats her well. If men are allowed and praised for having types it’s completely reasonable for women to have it to. (Even if women are less dead set on their “type”. )

@pmarca Marc, I'll make a deal with you. You can fund and create the AI future Elon talks about, but you give me control over how the robots and the robots production are distributed. Deal?

It's not about economics, it's about control. What Elon is saying is money will be worthless because there will technically be more product than demand. What he completely fails to address is that someone somewhere will still get to decide HOW the resources are allocated. That person will have power/control and everyone else will be enslaved to that person. (Possibly a well pampered slave).

Sometimes I say things too early. Years ago I said that AI companies will need to provide a percentage of their earning to everyone. That it was the only fair thing to do in exchange for our data. Nobody really understood at the time, and each time I said it, few responded. This was in the early days when ChatGPT first arrived and data was being scraped. Now it seems obvious to nearly everyone.

Everyone is missing the issue because they're thinking of it in money terms. The only question I have is who gets to decide how the " abundant" resources get allocated. Who tells the robots who to give resources too. It's not a question of economics, it's a question of power allocation.

Good morning. I think many economists are struggling with this. Because yes, yes "if everyone is a millionaire, nobody is." and "increased productivity does not mean increased wages historically" etc. This is a common fallacy. I dunno if it has a name, but it's where everyone assumes current conditions remain the same, then base their argument against the future based on everything remaining the same. The one thing we do know, nothing remains the same. Elon is not looking at world where we still have regular jobs, regular companies even, or even ...dare I say it...money as we know it. It's a very difficult future to see, and it could go many ways. Many bad ways too. In fact, I sometimes feel like Dr. Strange, peering into the the future of endless bad outcomes, only seeing a few good ones. I'm sure Elon feels it even worse. I don't think money is going to matter in the future, and that UBI is just a stepping stone to ease the transition to a very strange post-scarcity world. A world where everything is provided to you, and the only input that matters is energy. Every argument against the future, or prediction of the future, must be weighed against this new tapestry of future conditions, which will be radically different.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

Universal HIGH INCOME via checks issued by the Federal government is the best way to deal with unemployment caused by AI. AI/robotics will produce goods & services far in excess of the increase in the money supply, so there will not be inflation.

I hear this a lot, that "Women require an emotional connection for sex. Men require sex for an emotional connection." But it isn't true. Men are most romantic before you've even had sex with them a single time. Maybe the answer is to never have sex with them.
