@shwinnypooh Mikals pre extensioncontract was insane value for his role. I think something like 20mm AAV in ‘24-26 (compared to 32mm AAV for Quickley as a comp). The FRPs paid for his basketball contribution and the value contract. The playoff rising was our premium return on investment

Mikal was worth the picks for the Knicks bc they were too good to bottom out and the value of their FRPs was reduced, plus it still gave them the flex to deal for KAT and stay under the 2nd apron.
The Knicks bet big on Mikal as a finishing piece for a title and they were right.

It's very satisfying as a Knicks fan that the team broke the 53 yr title drought the way they did, and with the group they did rather than being used as a vehicle for an individual looking for a project to enhance their own legacy

@daBockas @FredKatz Shamet was a a non-guaranteed minimum, Clarkson was a minimum, and Jose was traded for using a contract larger than his. All of these signings could have been executed under the second apron. (Note that Yabu’s contract enabled the Jose trade and he was acquired thru tax MLE)

I'm happy this group got it done this season because if we're never going over the 2nd apron then that was prolly the last chance we had of winning a title with this core.
