@georgeeaton The decline of the North Sea has been exacerbated by policy - why is Norway still exploring and finding huge reserves. Equinor has pledged to drill 250 exploration wells innthe next decade alone. Our reserves need replacing and government is banning it.

The main reason UK energy prices are so high is not net zero but the fact the price of gas still sets the price of electricity. Breaking that link should be the priority.

@JeevunSandher Our hydrocarbons sector has given c£365bn net tax to the Treasury since 1970s; in next few years we will have to import two-thirds of our gas. So, we lose tax for the Treasury (replace it how?), haemorrhage jobs & rely on imports from others. How does that make us safer?

Oil price is spiking this morning. Three major implications: 1) Makes life less affordable here. Bad news for democracy. 2) Russia will get more revenue from oil sales 3) Time for us to get off these fossil fuels
