A few minutes ago the entire opposition @Kent_cc walked out of the Chamber in protest @reformparty_uk gagging of democracy.
Against advice and guidance of the Electoral Commission, independent Constitutional Barristers and the Council's own Monitoring Officer, ReformUK insisted on tabling their motion declaring a Migration Emergency, even though the council is with the 'Purdah" period when they are legally prohibited from debating issues which might influence the outcome of local elections presently taking place.
The only way they could do this was by the Chairman informing elected members that they were barred from criticising Reform, make
political points or criticise the policy.
The opposition parties met at lunchtime and agreed that the rules of debate set by the Reform-appointed Chairman made it impossible to oppose (which is our job).
This is a sad day for democracy, a sad day for good governance and a sad day for Kent and an example of what ReformUK will be like in government.

I agree. I remember when she did a visit to Portsmouth once and everyone was so unimpressed with her and how self-important she was. The visit was to a 'Big Society' campaign event at a community centre that local conservatives and then PPC had raised funds and brought together local businesses, champions and volunteers to collectively renovate the CC in the face of deliberate and wilful Lib Dem neglect/underfunding by their administration, who were running the local authority.
The community came together and all Warsi was worried about was her hair and wether she had a VPL. I was a lowly leaflet deliverer back then and just remember how she left a fairly bad taste on everyone's tongues - for context, they'd been really excited about her being sent to visit etc. It was a big deal to all involved and she was rude and awful.

A pattern emerges. Reform will say all the right things but never follow up. Missing votes on energy costs, no shows in important discussions and debates, pledging action on twitter on a range of issues then moving on to announce a raffle instead.
