@tomwhitby The challenge with this is that it means that there will be dozens of individual discipline policies within one school. It can be confusing for the adults - and even worse for the students! #EdChat

@tomwhitby has it been proven that suspension really works? I always wondered if the student is where they want to be anyway, at home? and for older grades, usually they're home alone, aren't they? #edchat

Suspension is too often applied to students of color more than white students even for the same offense. This is a tricky issue born out by research. #EdChat

I had a lesson on that last bit yesterday. Quite often student are afraid that giving the "wrong answer" will result in "looking stupid" in front of their peers. #EdChat

I'm grateful that they weren't disruptive today (as sometimes happens), and they weren't outright defiant. But they didn't use the time provided to demonstrate their writing skills. #EdChat

As an ELA teacher, I find value in including regional authors and poets and tying more standard literature to the local culture. So in that case, the flexibility of local control is helpful. #EdChat
