Serious question. If Coldcard’s RNG was silently bypassed for years due to a firmware/build bug, what’s stopping the same class of subtle entropy failures from existing in other hardware signing devices (Trezor, Ledger, BitBox, Jade, etc.)? Are we just assuming their TRNG + mixing designs are solid because nothing has blown up yet, or has anyone actually audited the equivalent code paths?

The US government’s own toxicology report on fluoride was buried internally for years. When it finally dropped, the National Toxicology Program concluded that higher fluoride exposure is consistently associated with lower IQ in children. A federal court then ruled in 2024 that water fluoridation at the levels still forced on tens of millions of Americans poses an unreasonable risk of reduced IQ. It’s still in the tap.

Schauen wir doch mal was dann passiert.

Proton, Threema, and others will leave Switzerland if this law is fully implemented. There is no way to force a referendum against amendments to the surveillance ordinance (#VÜPF), which the Federal Council can initiate at any time. There is a great deal of legal uncertainty.
Verfassungsschutz und Forensik ⛨@AGForensik

It is necessary to draw attention to the current legal situation in Switzerland. The Federal Council has repeatedly attempted to introduce #ChatControl and mandatory identification requirements through ordinances (#VÜPF); the legal basis for these measures has existed since 2018.

The "just move to Portugal" crowd is about to get destroyed. NHR is dead. The new regime starts in 2027. And everyone who moved there without a backup plan is scrambling. This is why you never build on one jurisdiction.

@dandelioni17 @T3chFalcon T60 (with Intel GPU) = yes, that era is old enough for full ME removal/disable. T61 = close, but a bit trickier (still pre-modern ME, but not as clean as T60 for Libreboot). Afaik. Dyor as i didnt deal with cybersecurity/hardware in a while, but used to do some white hat stuff :)

Most people who care about privacy focus on their operating system. Linux over Windows. open source over proprietary. That's good. it's also not enough. Here's what's running below your OS on almost every Intel computer made since 2006: The Intel Management Engine is a separate processor inside your chipset running its own closed-source operating system called Minix 3. It has direct access to your RAM, storage, network, and peripherals. it runs at Ring -3 below your kernel, below your hypervisor, below everything your OS can see or control. it stays active even when your computer is powered off as long as it's plugged in. You cannot audit it. you cannot disable it through normal means. You cannot detect what it's doing from inside your OS. The EFF called it a security hazard in 2017. The Libreboot project said it has complete access to and control over your PC, including the ability to track keystrokes, capture screen images, and examine all running applications. Intel confirmed multiple vulnerabilities in ME in 2017 affecting 6th through 8th generation Core processors, Xeon, and Atom chips. Researchers demonstrated it could be used to inject rootkits remotely via the network interface. The only known method to fully disable it was discovered by Positive Technologies. They found a hidden bit in the firmware labeled 'HAP enable' part of an NSA program called High Assurance Platform. The NSA has a switch to disable Intel ME. you don't. if you want hardware that doesn't include ME: AMD processors do not have the same implementation. Purism builds laptops with ME neutralized. The Libreboot project has a list of hardware that can run without proprietary firmware. Your threat model determines how far down this rabbit hole you need to go. But you should know the rabbit hole exists.

@T3chFalcon Good points, but a small correction - Purism doesnt neutralize the ME fully. For that you'd need older hardware

Julian Reichelt tweet media
Julian Reichelt@jreichelt

Tatsächlich hatte Musk auf X geschrieben: "Only by protesting REPEATEDLY and LOUDLY will there be any change!!"

Um genuinely how is this supposed to be enforced unless kernel-level spyware is implemented on every device? It would mean every second is watched, recorded, and reported. This is the ultimate 'big brother', just short of actually reading people's thoughts.
