New paper out! Towards an operational inclusion of close-range remote sensing in #NFI. We benchmarked multiple #LiDAR devices as well as a @GoPro camera on their potential to be included in the Swiss #NFI. @WSL_research: authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S15…

The use of a low-cost @GoPro action camera to extract a 3D point cloud shows promising results. Delivering very detailed 3D information of the lower 5 m of the canopy. However, data acquisition can be a challange.

#TLS is still the gold standard. However, data acquisition time can be a limiting factor for an operational inclusion in a #NFI. Handheld LiDAR devices (e.g. @GeoSLAMLtd ZebRevo) show high potential with a good compromise between accuracy and acquisition time
