@kiwitalkz They better start putting something better than garbage MediaTek ARM processors in smart TVs if they want to do away with consoles. No to mention that upload speeds/latency is still terrible outside of major cities. We’re still a long way off from cloud streaming being viable.

100% agree with Peter Moore, I think eventually there wont be a need for an Xbox and PS, especially as the increasing cost puts them more and more out of reach for the average consumer. If the day comes when TVs have the tech built in to them then it removes the box equation entirely. I think Nintendo will be the only one that survives mainly cause of how powerful their IP is. I have always thought console wars are dumb anyway, so I can't wait for that childish crap to end.
Idle Sloth@IdleSloth84_

Peter Moore: skyrocketing console prices threaten the future of dedicated hardware “I think that’s probably what the hardware manufacturers are noodling right now is, the cost of making this stuff is now getting ridiculous. We can’t compete. We can’t even get supply for what we need because the chip manufacturers are fueling artificial intelligence demand. And they’re looking at [consumers] and probably say, 'We can’t make enough profit on you.'” “Every generation, the last two or three generations, we’ve all said, ‘Is this the last console generation? Do we need a dedicated piece of hardware between us, the television and our controller?’ And the answer so far has always been, yes, we do. But I’ve always said since I got in the industry in my Sega days, eventually you’ll just have a chip in the TV that will allow you to Netflix-style look at all the games that are available right now and how many people are playing and you’ll jump in. And do you need something between that experience on your screen and your controller? The lag and latency will be close to zero. And so off you go.” “I think this is a real test for the validity of a video game console. Either technology will solve the problem or the gamer will solve the problem by saying, ‘I can’t afford 800 bucks for a console. I will play on my PC. Maybe figure out ways of streaming the game to my 4K TV. If I don’t like to use a keyboard and a mouse, then I can get a controller that will work and off I go.’ And the PC becomes your console. I think that is the challenge. Gamers will always find ways to play games.” via: Kotaku kotaku.com/games-industry…

@videotech You don’t have to buy their hardware or games on their platform. I don’t care what they do going forward, I’ll play on PC and Switch 2. It’s not like this was their first bad decision, they’ve been making them all generation long since Jim Ryan and Herman Hulst started leading PS

Bit sad the backlash did absolutely nothing to change Sony’s decision on killing discs. This new digital future is going to suck very much, this will hinder customer rights even more and the “Sony tax” on discounted games will never feel like a good deal. Disappointed

@711arreiS @kiwitalkz @videotech That’s the spirit, I like your attitude. This decision is going to follow them into next generation whether they ignore it or not. They were already gonna be behind the 8 ball trying to launch a $1000+ system and they made it worse by alienating all the enthusiasts.

@kiwitalkz @videotech The language seems to imply that you think the backlash is over. On the contrary it’s just getting started.

@fullyliquid @Apogee_Ent I remember this game was preinstalled on my Grandparents’ PC they bought from Best Buy in the mid 90s. I’ve heard elitists call it a “EuroShmup” but it’s a pretty fun game.

@K__Med I wouldn’t worry about it K-Med, you know what you meant by the post. Don’t let people shame you over what something could have hypothetically meant (but didn’t). Stuff like this (ppl trying to shame you) is a waste of energy, spend it on people who are actually hateful instead.

@TheSphereHunter They will never do that though, they’ve been less committed to physical throughout the entire generation, they’re not going to do a 180 now. They’re probably delighted about PS’s announcement so they did not have to be the one to say it first.

if microsoft reveals the next Xbox console as the Xbox 720 and it has a cool frutiger aero or DORFic design and comes equipped with a disc drive with games that are completely on the discs, i might consider moving to Xbox-land

@xMBGx At the start of the PS5 gen, an 8 or 9. After all the live service nonsense and closure of Bluepoint and killing of physical games, a 2-3. They’ve really burned through all the consumer goodwill they used to have. Jim Ryan/Herman Hulst are some of the worst execs to ever lead PS.

@chibiaigis2 @AnAverageGamerX No one expects physical support for forever, they just expect platform holders to support it while there is still a market for it (which there still very much is for full priced single player titles).

@chibiaigis2 @AnAverageGamerX If Sony would have just done one more generation, ppl would have accepted that. It would have been a gradual transition instead of most games getting physical releases rapidly shifting to none as of 2028. No one expected PS7 to support physical. They did this bc of the ram crisis

@ProbablyMinkus @BoTalksGames Gog is great but it’s not a viable replacement for PS5. It’s 80% retro games and maybe 1 out of every 10 or even 20 modern releases. So many publishers are absent from Gog apart from their retro games.

@QuantumSammy @Adam_On_X_ @PlayStation He’s right, it will be a pointless digital only DRM box that requires a subscription service AND it won’t have but 1 new first party game every 18 months. All for the low price of $1100, the 10th generation will be a dumpster fire. People like you will probably preorder it too.

@PlayStation I made sure to buy @Denshattack on Steam instead bc PS’s leadership doesn’t give a fuck about what loyal customers want. All you care about is arrogantly making stupid decisions. Ken Kutaragi must be ashamed of how you’ve ran the brand into the ground throughout the generation.

@stonedjedi66 @MADkurious I’m not disagreeing with you, people not being able to stick to their guns and hold out on making purchases is the core of the problem. Without that, nothing will change.

@MonsierOblivion @BoTalksGames Agree 100%. I have my own preferences (Switch 2 and Steam) but I don’t really care where other ppl play. There’s not one right answer bc everyone has different priorities on what genres they want to play and what features they expect and what perf level. Options are a good thing.

@BoTalksGames I find it hillarious that people dislike others for having some standards and for wanting a better environment for themselves where they feel more comfortable. It doesn't matter where we play, we're all gamers at the end of the day. We should support each other, not fight.
