Your brain can’t tell the difference between reading about running and actually running. The same brain cells fire either way. Neuroscientists at Emory University proved this by scanning people’s brains for 19 days while they read a novel over 9 nights. Every single reading session changed the brain’s wiring. And those changes lasted five days after the book was finished. A book physically changes you. Your brain treats the characters’ experiences like your own memories. The regions that light up when you feel someone else’s pain, when you process language, when you physically move your body, all fire while you’re sitting there turning pages. A Yale study tracked 3,635 people for 12 years. Book readers had a 20% lower risk of dying during the study compared to people who didn’t read. Even 30 minutes a day was enough to show a survival advantage. And this held across every demographic. The researchers controlled for age, income, race, education, existing health conditions, and depression. The survival advantage came specifically from books. Magazines and articles didn’t produce the same result. Charlie Munger helped turn Berkshire Hathaway into a 20,000-to-1 return over his career. He had a line that stuck with me: “I constantly see people rise in life who are not the smartest, sometimes not even the most diligent, but they are learning machines. They go to bed every night a little wiser than they were when they got up, and boy does that help, particularly when you have a long run ahead of you.” His kids said he was “a book with a couple of legs sticking out.” He read across science, psychology, physics, history, and economics, and built an entire investment system out of ideas he found in those books. He died at 99. Berkshire returned 2,000,000% under his and Buffett’s watch. A bouquet of books might be the only gift that rewires someone’s brain, adds years to their life, and could contain an idea that changes the entire direction of how they see the world.

Most lawyers research in a straight line. They find the statute. They find the leading cases. They pull a few quotations. Then they start explaining why their facts fit. That works sometimes. It just does not take you very far. 🧵

@hk7_538 bold of you to say an award winning & highly acclaimed artiste like Wiz has no ‘education’ because of the publicity stunt he’s pulling (which you don’t clearly understand). You think ‘education’ is what you people do in Nigerian schools. lol

Most men are so starved for tenderness that they will call any feminine presence a blessing, even while it is quietly eating holes through their spirit. they would rather be slowly pecked to death from across the dinner table than face one clean night alone under God and the wind. but a man who still has some sacred violence left in his soul knows the difference between hunger and corrosion. I would rather sleep on the edge of a roof with cold in my teeth and the whole black sky leaning on my ribs than lie beside a woman whose voice keeps needling into my inner world until even my silence no longer belongs to me

Early last year, I cut a friend off. I’d known him from childhood but we were actual friends for about 5 years. I cut him off ‘cos he’d became accustomed to responding late to my texts; ignoring my texts and calls and hitting up days to weeks later in a similar fashion.

Loosing attraction for them when they pay attention to you, 'cos beneath, you don't rate yourself enough to think people of value can find you worthy. So you punish them for it before searching for the next dreamy excitement to manifest your damaged self-esteem & purposelessness.

God wants you to read this verse: Job 22:28 "You will succeed in everything you decide to do, and the light will shine on the road ahead." You will cry, not because someone has hurt you, but because God has answered your prayers.

@FEjaita so as a lawyer, asides negligence, what other cause(s) of action do you think can arise from a patently defective product such as this?

it's such a wild thing to know that so much of being employed is choosing what level of exploitation you're able to deal with and what acceptable rate of pay you ascribe to each level.

Arguing this case where my only defence against the evidence of the key witness is “confirmation bias”. Criminal law is quite interesting.

I think the most depressing fact about humanity is that during the 2000s most of the world was handed essentially free access to the entirety of knowledge and that didn't trigger a golden age.
