2016 - 2020, but again observing Texas Tech football since 2001. I feel like a lot of the fan experience has been stripped away by the corporatization. Even the endgame experience felt less cheesy and inundated with ads. I can’t get with a McDonald’s sponsored reader power chat. I really wish the guy go to Campbell. Could just approach Tech and say hey I’m gonna cut you one check for every bit of sponsorship and advertisement you normally receive, an exchange for a cleansed, authentic college football game experience.

Texas Tech’s west side is one of the most beautiful stadium facades in college football, which is why I’ve always felt the massive parking lot in front of it takes away from the aesthetic of the building itself. Separately, I also think the game day atmosphere has suffered some as tailgating has gradually been pushed farther away from the stadium. I understand the importance of donor spaces, but I’d love to see more of the surrounding green space and parking areas transformed into a true tailgating district with more greenery, walkable gathering spaces, live music, and first-come, first-serve tailgating closer to the stadium again. The stadium already has a great identity. The atmosphere around it should match it.

My handle says 1989, but that’s just to play into the Darius Rucker bit. My dad has been taking me since I was four years old starting around 2001. So I grew up tailgating on the east side, and watched the tailgating get destroyed by the stadium renovations. It was magnificent back then, and that’s why I’m saying we’re lacking something now.
