@jengerson A referendum is not force. Whatever your arguments against Alberta sovereignty they don't justify refusing a referendum. A referendum is asking Albertans what they want. The only reason to oppose it is that you don't care what we want.

I agree.
James Fletcher@JimmyFletch78

@jengerson I’m not from Alberta, but my moral compass tells me that the UCP should declare itself a secessionist party, and win an election as such before they force a referendum. 178K on a petition in a province of 5M is far too low a bar to subject Alberta to this uncertainty

A message to any Albertan planning to vote to separate from Canada: when you’re making summer vacation plans be sure to stay the hell out of BC. You’re not welcome.

@PiBPodcast So called Central Canada thinks it can achieve unity at gunpoint. As long as that's the case, there will be no unity, and if it carries on too long, there will be no union either.

POLITICS IS BROKEN
POLITICS IS BROKEN@PiBPodcast·
Alberta threatening to leave Canada isn't the real danger. The threat lies in normalizing provincial secession when challenges arise. This sets a dangerous precedent, especially now, with global affairs at their most volatile in decades. We need unity, not division.

@nanrob3942 @Victoria59L @GG37374104 Let's write off any group that's less than 17% of the population, like trans identifiers, indigenous and so on. After all, it's unreasonable to think that government policy should accommodate minorities. Your terms are acceptable, Nancy.

@Victoria59L @GG37374104 According to StatsCan, 83% of Canadians live in Urban settings, 75% in large cities & the percentage is increasing. If you expect policy to be made to accommodate 17% of the population, many of whom do not bother to vote, it’s not me who is out of touch. I agree it’s sad.

I'm so sorry for commenting on the cost of my groceries going up. I buy the same things every week from the same stores & the total bill is MORE every week. If you are happy with the cost of your groceries, I'm happy for you. Luxury item or not, the prices are going up. And up.
Carole Nelson Brown@SMmamashack

@GG37374104 It’s like the people who post 3 2” thick strip loins for $60 and whinge about the price of food when they are buying a luxury cut, really big steaks and from Longos. We show similar steak from 3 other stores for $40. They argue 🤷‍♀️

BIG news out of Kitchener-Waterloo: the Ontario Superior Court has ruled that homelessness is an analogous ground for discrimination under s.15 of the Charter. This is a BIG step toward recognizing homeless people as an equity-seeking group under the law. Governments take note!

This guy, and millions of others, are perfectly happy when the gun is in the hands of the federal government and is leveled at Alberta's head. I respect him for openly admitting the point of Canada is the tyranny of the majority and that without that tyranny he thinks Canada isn't working.

@gilmcgowan @acoyne Cognitive sovereignty? Please. Peddle the notion that citizens are helpless pawns of disinformation somewhere else. We're free agents here in Alberta and we take responsibility for our actions, our decisions, and ourselves.

The “cognitive sovereignty” of Albertans is under attack, as profit-seeking fraudsters and Russian and American political operatives use AI-powered disinformation to divide the population and make separatism seem more popular and plausible than it really is. Essential reading.

@Safety_Canada You just can't stop with the propaganda. There are a lot of countries that don't respect their own citizens. That's not an argument for Canada to join their number as another draconian surveillance state.

The impulse to diversify canonical works like The Odyssey is the whole concept of a canon doing what it’s supposed to do — serving as broad cultural patrimony rather than as a curious foreign story. slowboring.com/p/a-diverse-od…
