Touching moment passing through security at JFK- the customs & border officer checking my documents asked what I did for a living, and I said I worked in education and he said- I kid you not- ‘thank you for your service.’ Being British I wasn’t having any of that, and said ‘No thank YOU’ etc until the sun came up. But that was lovely.
