@orthobro @AirwingMarine I agree, not very often do people bring up latency but a lot of people refuse to get rid of their fiber upload speeds even though all they do is stream and scroll on TikTok, maybe make a video call or two.

The way stuff works out sometimes is so funny. Been working through getting fiber installed at my house for months now. Winter here in Montana poses some unique issues, so that's a part of why it's drug out. We were supposed to get set up for 2.5 gig up/down last week. Well, the hardware they brought was broken or had some issue, and they didn't have replacements, so they were going to overnight the 1gig hardware. Something went wrong with that order, and it didn't show up. But the outfit wanted to keep to the timeline so they just installed 10 gig up/down hardware 🤣. No extra cost for the hardware, and in fact they are giving us a $50 amazon card for the hassle. They are going to throttle us down to the lower speed, BUT... if I ever want 10 gig for some reason... I can get it with a phone call and the flip of a switch 😁 I'm capped at 1 gig now simply cause some of the wiring in the house is old and only cat5e. I'll get that upgraded. But man this is a game changer for me!

@orthobro @AirwingMarine I sell internet and people are married to their fiber upload speeds even though most houses are not saturating the 30-50mbps HFC offers. Can’t wait for high split, then I just have to hear about 15-20ms of latency all day.

Honestly, after 500mb, the speeds really start to matter less and less. I’ve had 1gig up/down and I now have Starlink residential Max 400 mbps down/ 60mbps up, and I literally cannot tell the difference in my day to day (except price and maybe a few ms latency win for fiber lmao). Unless you are moving huge files all the time or have 10 plex clients or you are self hosting a big site, anything beyond 500 down/50 up is just luxury.
