@writeousluthern It can be tortuously painful. When I was ordained, and called to a local church, on my first day I thought to myself…”nothing changed”. I met w people all over the place, bear each others burden, read the Bible together & pray and do life. Keep doing that! 🙏❤️🙏

After my forced resignation, I’m not sure I’m meant to be a pastor. I had these same cynicisms in undergrad and at seminary. Perhaps they were right.

. "Obedience! Obedience!" is the refrain of the prideful legalist. Puffed up with delusions of obedience & self worth. They won't even be obedient to God in the smallest of ways. They scoff at coming to complete stops at stop signs & laugh at the speed "limit". What a joke.

As a pastor, I don’t generally like talking negatively about pastors. But our current state is pathetic & embarrassing. You’ve got pastors (young & old) leading & preaching like it’s 1989, Reagan is in the White House, and the greatest threat to our culture is The Simpsons. These guys will claim they’re staying “focused on the gospel,” that they’re above “culture wars,” and that they “stay out of politics,” when really they’re just craven and weak. Weak pastors produce weak Christians.

. People like to talk (some even boast) about how much they love Jesus. I realize that I don't really love Him all that much. It's evident in how little I love those around me that He has commanded me to love. I don't trust Him or thank Him like I ought either. But His love for me is steadfast.

For years, I’ve wanted to have a Holy Saturday service where everyone would show up and just sit silently for an hour. But I think folks would be really weirded out so I haven’t done it.

God has a wonderful plan for your life: to crucify, to bury, and to resurrect you with Christ. What could possibly be better than that?
