"They make the food look really aesthetic and pretty, and make me kind of wanna eat it more." Adolescents enjoy engaging social media junk food promotions, but what food content are they exposed to and how aware are they of it? Read our recent publication: doi.org/10.1186/s12966…

"It looks like a lot of fun, and it is a lot of fun." Food marketing has drastically changed with the rise of social media, exposing adolescents to a blur of entertaining food content, but is it for the best? Read about it in our recent publication! doi.org/10.1016/j.appe…

Does the sourness and saltiness of certain foods have anything to do with how we’re feeling? This survey is part of my PhD research project. Your time and help in answering these questions will be hugely appreciated!! uon.syd1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_03…

How do you view your food after you exercise? As a reward? Replenishment of nutrients? 🤔A new Diet-Related Beliefs of Exercisers Scale has recently been developed to shed more light on the interplay of exercise 🏃‍♀️ and eating 🍏tinyurl.com/32d6x6rh @UniCologne @UON_research

@VasiloglouMaria @TamBucher Adults are better capable of cognitively processing ads than children/young adolescents, but as social media ads are much more integrated in content - everyday, anytime - and personalised, anyone viewing them will likely be less aware of them. More evidence on this needed though!

@TamBucher @daphnevdbend Interesting! Does this make adolescents to buy those products presented in the adds? Also wondering whether or not adults recognize food adds easier; do you know if there is any data on this?

@VasiloglouMaria @TamBucher @VasiloglouMaria thanks! Research on (mostly TV) food marketing has shown that this indeed makes children buy and consume those (i.e. mostly junk) foods. However, we need more research on (the impact of) social media food marketing specifically and also on the adolescent group.
