Dear Africans, do not listen to the lies being peddled on Facebook by Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma. She is posting very old videos and pretending that they show what is happening today in Nigeria. The video and her post are now being shared in WhatsApp groups in South Africa.
She wants to whip up emotions among South Africans by falsely claiming that South African shops like Shoprite are being burnt down in Nigeria by Nigerians. If you go to her Facebook page, she has posted that fake video.
The video is old and fake in the context she is using it. It even refers to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. Buhari left office on 29 May 2023 after completing his two terms as president. The current President of Nigeria is Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who took office on 29 May 2023.
People must stop spreading misinformation to inflame tensions between Africans.
It is wrong, it is evil, and it must be called out to spread lies on social media in order to inflame violence in South Africa based on fake news claiming that South African shops are being burnt down in Nigeria.
Deliberately spreading misinformation to provoke anger, hatred, and division between Africans is dangerous and irresponsible.
