Today will mark 6 weeks since the Ozoro incident happened where women were sexually violated by men and boys en masse. 6 weeks later and no update, no prosecutions, not even a conclusion to the “investigations”. Just another incident of GBV being swept under the carpet.

It will never make sense to me that policemen got a hold of a civilian linked with arms who repeatedly said the main man was in Sapele and he was willing to take them there, yet they executed him rather than follow the Sapele lead. Sorry, it actually 'makes sense' to me why they would shoot him rather than attempt to find his accomplices. And I know it 'makes sense' to you too...

The research behind this is wild. Your sperm carries a set of instructions that tell your genes when to turn on and off. A Duke University study found that THC rewrites those instructions. The more weed in your system, the bigger the changes. It goes straight for the genes your future embryo needs in its first week of life. I had to read the "day 3 crash" part twice. For the first three days after fertilization, an embryo runs entirely on the mother's DNA. Day 3, the father's genes switch on. If those genes carry cannabis damage, the embryo just stops growing. Fertility doctors see this happen in their labs: embryos that fertilized fine and looked healthy on day 2 go completely still by day 5. Boston University tracked 1,535 couples trying to have a baby. Men who smoked weed once a week or more doubled their partner's miscarriage risk. That number held up even when the woman herself never touched cannabis. And the miscarriages clustered in the first 8 weeks, right when the father's damaged DNA would be doing the most harm. Duke also found that the specific genes THC alters in sperm overlap with genes linked to autism. One of those genes, called DLGAP2, helps brain cells communicate with each other. It was changed in cannabis users' sperm. When researchers bred THC-exposed male rats and checked their offspring, the same altered gene pattern showed up in the pups' brains. The damage crossed a generation. Weed has gotten way stronger over the last 30 years. THC content was about 4% in the 1990s but nearly quadrupled to 15% by 2018, and modern dispensary strains regularly sit at 20-30%. Concentrates go up to 95%. Quitting for about 11 weeks (one full cycle of sperm production) reverses some of the DNA changes. Not all of them. Duke's lead researcher says men should stop at least 6 months before trying for a baby. Half of your kid's genetic blueprint comes from you, and right now, THC is editing that blueprint before conception even happens.
Andrew D. Huberman, Ph.D.@hubermanlab

Cannabis is detrimental to sperm: even if they can fertilize, there can be DNA damage. Many miscarriages and (in the case of IVF) “day 3 crashes” which is when paternal DNA normally kicks in, are cannabis related. Dr Natalie Crawford on the Huberman Lab podcast out now.

THE BOY UNDER THE DESK I was that boy. Small-framed. Easy target. In the early 1980s, in a secondary school, bigger boys and seniors who should have known better, decided that my size was an invitation. I was tortured. I was maimed. I was made to crawl under a desk and hold myself in that fetal position for hours. Hours. Nobody called it bullying then. It had a different name - rite of passage. As though surviving cruelty was the qualification for manhood. I survived. I grew. I became. But what nobody tells you about survival is that; the boy under the desk never fully leaves. He sits quietly somewhere inside the man at this table. For years, I carried what happened to me in silence, and suffered bouts of depression because I couldn't tell no soul. Not even my parents. That silence was the real crime. Not just the silence of a frightened boy, but the silence of teachers who saw and looked away. The silence of peers who laughed and said nothing. The silence of a system that confused cruelty with character-building. The silence of a culture that said this is how boys become men. But here is where it gets concerning. The bully didn't disappear when school ended. He graduated. He entered our offices, institutions, and government houses. The boy who learned that size and fear were power, is still performing that lesson, in bigger arenas, and with higher stakes. This is why I am today calling for a dedicated national anti-bullying law that formally defines and recognizes bullying as a harm distinct from general misconduct, mandates every school to have a written anti-bullying policy, creates reporting obligations for school administrators, and establishes consequences for institutional cover-up or negligence. Regulation (under the supervision of the Ministry of Education) must also extend to teacher training institutions. Pre-service and in-service training should include child safeguarding, bullying identification, and intervention methods. A teacher who cannot recognise or respond to bullying is an institutional liability. I might have been that boy under the desk. But I refuse to be that adult that says nothing. Bashir, Before this so-called young foreigner came to our shores, Christians had been targeted and killed for more than one decade. He was not in Jos in 2018 when I served, and over 200 persons were killed somewhere around Barkin Ladi by fulani islamists. My fellowship back then, NCCF, sent buses there to rescue corpers. I remember it vividly. You should also remember you were the (what was that useless position again?) to the then most useless president in Nigeria, Buhari (the incompetent). See, my problem with people like you, especially Muslims from the North, is how you all try to downplay the gravity of what is happening. You all will do anything to change the narrative and smokescreen the masses. The question is, why??? Are you a hidden member of the Islamic sect that kills these innocents? Do you in any way support them from the backside, maybe financially or otherwise? Why do y’all try to change narratives??
Bashir Ahmad, OON@BashirAhmaad

This is a strong call on the relevant authorities to urgently look into the activities of this young foreigner, Alex Barbir, who has been moving around openly, spreading hate and attempting to incite violence against Nigerians of diverse backgrounds. The authorities should take swift and lawful steps to investigate, apprehend, where necessary and ensure accountability to safeguard peace, unity and public order.

My questions to President Tinubu @officialABAT and his @OfficialAPCNg Party currently in festivity mode is: Do you know what manner of leaders feast while their people are being slaughtered? Do you know what kind of leaders watch the gory images of their dead citizens again and again? Do you know what manner of leaders with the power and duty to protect lives merely respond to mass killings of their people either with silence or issue useless press releases and make hopeless committee appointments to incompetently “investigate” the obvious? The answer is simple. It is a group of demonized bloodsucking rulers. This is really who you all must be by your unconscionable indifference to these killings of our people. That mother and her son are dead. Their blood is on the hands of you who knew, who looked away, who chose a convention hall over a Command Center. As for the rest of us, Nigerians, we simply cannot continue to normalize acceptance that a Nigerian Life means nothing to these evil rulers. Our griefs and prayers must become collective fury at this point. Our collective fury must become demand and that collective demand must have consequence at this time. Jos is bleeding…… Nigeria is bleeding….. Nigerians are bleeding. Silence is complicity✍🏾✍🏾✍🏾

Why does this silly narrative come up whenever Christians speak up about being targeted, attacked and killed on the basis of their faith? If you are working hard against division on the basis of faith, shouldn't you be standing with the people complaining rather than pushing a narrative to shut them up? People like you do far more to stoke the embers of division than "they" ever can. You loudly support a government that fails/refuses/neglects to protect vulnerable communities. And when people speak up, you people push this weak narrative. Is there anything worse than the govt refusing to do its job? And people like you supporting it all the same? This nonsense needs to stop. It really does.
Mohammed Jammal@whitenigerian

They want to divide us along religious and tribal lines. They want us fighting each other while they hide behind the chaos. And sadly, they are getting exactly what they want. But Nigeria is bigger than their agenda. We must wake up, stand united, and refuse to be used against one another. This is not a religious war, it is a deliberate attempt to break our unity. If we don’t see it for what it is, the madness continues. If we do, we take back our country. 🇳🇬
