I am aware he has been canceled but his writings are some of my favorite books. Maybe celebrate the artist that visualized his Snow, Glass, Apples... Amazing work.

@darinsims I have always loved this one. I don’t like the ones with robots and laser’s keep that for other settings leave my ad&d to the fantasy not sci fi.

U1 The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh Some consider this a classic. I don't care for it. Its too ordinary. Lacks the D&D weirdness... feels too much like Scooby Doo and a missed opportunity to be an Innsmouth... I think this where we begin to see "plot" infiltrate the modules

T1 The Village of Hommlet Greatest starting village. Great seeds throughout. It would be 6 years before we got the "sequel" I have probably run Hommlet a dozen or more times. I've never run the Temple of Elemental Evil.

The Fellowship of the Thing - Official Blackmoor
My goal is to promote Classic D&D play methods. It isn't about better or worse - you can play how and what you want. I do feel Classic play is dying out and the ideas need to be both preserved and shared to new gamers. When we wrote The lost Dungeons of Tonisborg, Dan and I were keenly aware of the need for a book full of DM tips and tricks. The older DMs will see it and nod their head because they already do the kinds of things presented in Tonisborg, yet the new generation may not be aware of these ideas. The ideas have nothing to do with the rules, it is the entire approach to creating an immersive experience for the players that has risks, consequences and rewards.

I like boxed text descriptions of each room/encounter in a D&D adventure. I understand that its setting up the puzzle. I like watching the players listen intently for their clues about whats about to happen or how to safely proceed. What to search? Where's the trap?

@JohnFort68 @DrElliotVernon Ive run multiple 5e campaigns. It just isn't fun. My experience is that newer players tend to want to play at playing D&D.

@darinsims @DrElliotVernon I mostly run AD&D 2nd edition or BECMI D&D, though I did run 5e as well for a couple of years (the OGL crap led to us moving on from that). It's very difficult to get younger players to try older versions of the game, and even more difficult to get older gamers to try the new.

I9 Ravenloft. One of the greatest D&D modules of all time. However it heralded an idea that has severely hampered modern D&D play: supplanting the dungeon with a BBEG I9 itself didn't do this but it opened the door.

@darinsims @DrElliotVernon Personally, I think the game may have (to a large extent) died out if it hadn't continued to evolve over time. As much as I enjoyed the early modules, and still do, I don't think that style was sustainable forever. Eventually they'd have grown monotonous.

@jcmeyer119 Names may be up to the DM. The plot/the story... these are in the hands of the players.

@darinsims B2 has no plot, no story, and nothing is named; it leaves it up to the DM to do with it whatever they want.

Why is B2 often called the GOAT of adventures? Because there is no plot. No BBEG. the players are the main character. The best DMs are there to facilitate & spectate.

@bluedaypop Even if you include all trans as female, even then it is doubtful it is above 20%. The only way those could be accurate is if the "player" count has dropped dramatically to under 500k.

@radwyn It really is. It showed how you could manipulate & adapt your campaign world. Having a moving villian was novel. Its negative affect on "modules" going forward was devastating. It really changed how people think D&D should be played...
