Occam’s Razor suggests that Musk acts according to his quite transparently, and repeatedly, stated ethos. He doesn’t want to see the light of consciousness, currently only known to exist on Earth (and in orbit around it more recently), extinguished for as long as possible. He has transparently repeated that free speech is integral to a civilization matched to the task of expanding terrestrial life outward. There is a reason the PRC is emulating SpaceX and not vice versa. Freedom is the core of the light of consciousness that is worth preserving in Musk’s view. We can disagree with his conclusions (I don’t disagree) but trying to infer more complicated ulterior motives is not going to be fruitful really. The reason he bought Twitter is almost certainly the reason he said he bought Twitter

@BillyM2k Hunter is on there twice; first instance doesn’t look like a hunter (maybe a gut churning butter?). What is the unlabeled one on lower left?

You had me with the first two paragraphs and then immediately lost me at the third. We don’t need mandated cursive and enforced phone restrictions. We need more opportunities for genuine connection and community. No disrespect, but this is a very odd, boomer-ass solution to a very real problem. I had to double check this wasn’t a parody account because cursive really came out of nowhere.

The best thing we can do for our kids right now is to just let them be kids. Kids are getting cell phones sooner than any generation before them, screen times are up while real human connection is down, and foundational skills aren’t being taught enough these days. We need to take a step back. It’s why I just signed a bipartisan bill into law, requiring cursive handwriting to once again be taught in PA public schools. It’s also why I’ve called on the legislature to pass a bill requiring schools to both implement a bell-to-bell cell phone ban and guarantee recess for every Pennsylvania student.  Let’s continue our work to set young people on a path to success — and let our kids be kids.

@darthgently @Eliana_Goldin @GovernorShapiro Okay it opened and yeah, this doesn’t show any particular benefit of cursive. It just says handwriting is better than typing. Then people speculating that cursive might be better, but with zero actual evidence for it presented here.

@XFreeze @elonmusk While I agree that Space𝕏 is amazing, if you look at the graphic in your post you’ll see that your $65,000/kg was not the rate when Space𝕏 emerged.

It’s actually insane what SpaceX is doing to the space industry right now In 1981, it cost ~$65,000 to put 1 kg into orbit For 50 years, the industry accepted this as the standard. Reusable rockets were "impossible" Then one company - led by a man obsessed with getting humanity to Mars, decided that $65,000/kg was unacceptable Right now, Elon and the SpaceX team are building Starship to hit $10–$20/kg That is a massive ~4,000x price collapse It’s actually wild that we get to watch this happen in real time

@Eliana_Goldin @GovernorShapiro There is sooooo much research showing the connection between writing and learning. Taking notes by hand facilitates learning & deepens understanding , handwriting allows you to take notes faster.
