1. I'm not familiar with the differences between queer and trans in terms of mental health statistics, but what is still true is that the rate of mental health among the trans community is significantly higher than other minority or harassed communities such as as gay or African American. This indicates that it is not the harassment or minority status causing the issue, but a separate correlation entirely. As far as death threats, every class of people gets those. The trans are not out of place here. 2. Again, language doesn't evolve that way. It can be forced, but it takes a long time to do (decades at minimum). Language always evolves towards efficiency and familiarity. This kind of change pushes against both. 3. A) Not sure why MtF is relevant here. This is about biological women. B) Doesn't particularly matter if the women coming in second have no hope of ever making it to the top. C) The laws vary by jurisdiction but have always been enforced to my knowledge. 4. Being triggered sucks. I used to get triggered too. I eventually realized that it gave other people power over me, and if I wanted to live my life the way I wanted I had no choice but to let it go. It's not easy, and can certainly take a while, but it can be done. Okay, looks like Gender Queer was in high schools, not elementary. That said, LGBT issues are still heavily pushed in many elementary schools. I would argue that discussing anything of a sexual nature to people of that age needs to be very carefully and neutrally crafted, and having that as a focus in elementary schools (which is required by law in some states) is dangerous, especially when parents have been so heavily attacked for disagreeing with the teachers who push it, and when the animosity for and against teaching it has been so high.

1. This is factually incorrect. There are plenty of groups that are hated and significantly discriminated against, but those patterns of mental illness do not appear with the sole exception of the trans people. Also, I have never met a real human that wanted people dead for being trans, so I reject that argument. 2. That’s unlikely to ever take hold, simply because languages typically take decades or centuries to shift so significantly, not to mention that “they” already has a meaning and is therefore grammatically ambiguous. 3. MtF isn’t relevant to this argument. Examples of this issue are biological men in women’s sports or bathrooms. These structures exist solely to protect women. The women I’ve spoken to on this largely agree that the idea of biological men in the bathroom with them makes them uncomfortable. That has to be respected as well. The men I’ve spoken to mostly don’t care who is in there with them. 4. There are numerous and growing cases where people transitioned young and regretted it years later. The transition (surgery or drugs) is permanent and many now can’t have kids who would like to. This is an important issue to examine and shutting down the conversation around it (or in many cases hiding it from parents) was wrong. These dangers have to be carefully considered, and haven’t. Social transitioning is not as dangerous obviously, but gender dysphoria is very rare unless taught or encouraged. If kids are repeatedly told “those evil MAGAs over there don’t want you to choose your gender”, then basic psychology tells us the natural reaction will be more interest in gender, and an inevitable increase in dysphoria. You’ll have to search around for those sources (I’m on my phone) but they’re definitely there. The book Gender Queer is one example.

@dastopher @yesto3rrishuman @BraedenSorbo @prem_thakker @mehdirhasan I was open minded before, which is how I became accepting of trans people. It’s not close minded to say that you’re wrong, and it’s not close minded to not debate about it. The only reason y’all believe this is because you CHOOSE to believe it. I’m not engaging with that mindset.

Why would you? It's called being open minded. Respect trans homies? I do, but you didn't read my reply so you wouldn't know that. What I will not respect is dismissal without a willingness to debate.

@dastopher @yesto3rrishuman @BraedenSorbo @prem_thakker @mehdirhasan There is nothing to debate. Calling someone what they don’t want to be called is disrespectful. It’s extremely common for people to be angry when disrespected. Therefore if you call someone the wrong name/pronouns, don’t be surprised when they lash back at you. It’s simple stuff.

This right here is the debate that we all should have had years ago. Calling someone by the wrong name isn't an accurate comparison. Here's a different perspective. 1. There are significant correlations between transgenderism and severe mental health issues, and calling someone by the wrong gender may or may not reinforce that. This not a fully understood subject at this time, but a person who is mentally healthy can live in the world as it exists without being constantly triggered by it. A toddler that is given what they want when they throw a tantrum will grow to be unhappy and unable to live a good life. Likewise, focusing heavily on gender at a young age can increase gender dysphoria significantly. Again, there's no desire to be rude or dismiss people's pain, but there is truth to the fact that tough love given at the right time makes people mentally well. 2. Preferred pronouns are not a workable language feature. The function of language is that two people who know nothing about each other can communicate without having to coordinate first on what words to use. Any language feature that doesn't work this way will eventually phase out, because it's effectively useless. Preferred pronouns was never going to last, and was only being held in place by social media algorithms of that time. 3. Women's rights are greatly affected by this topic. Male-pattern behavior is not changed by someone self-identifying as a woman, and this can breach certain protections that women have appropriately come to rely upon. 4. Transitioning, both with drugs and surgery, is turning out to have severe, negative, and long-term effects. Parents have every right to protect their children from teachers or doctors promoting these, . I could go on and on, from gay porn in elementary schools (yes that was real) to federal investigations targeting conservatives. The point is people were not just being attacked for "being rude", they were being attacked for bringing up actual problems and then silenced if they refused to go along with it.

I’m talking about the period of time earlier this decade where you couldn’t even talk about not wanting to use preferred pronouns without being called a fascist, or getting banned from social media, or your workplace firing you, or your business boycotted, or even having long-time friends refusing to speak to you. Not for being rude about it mind you, just trying to understand all sides of the discussion. Most lefties I’ve talked to genuinely have no idea that this level of censorship was happening, but it was very real.

@BraedenSorbo @prem_thakker @mehdirhasan actually, people only really get mad when you're disrespectful about it. IE: if you accidentally misgender someone, they're correct you kindly and if you do it on purpose they'll either get ticked off and argue with you or just ignore you

@sflorimm Students don’t write so that the teacher/professor has something to read. They write so they can work themselves through the process of understanding. Using AI to write means the student isn’t learning to their potential. Thus it’s banned.

Schools ban AI so students don’t cheat. Employers demand AI so workers don’t fall behind. We are actively punishing 15-year-olds for using the exact tools they need to master to be employable at 22. How long until the traditional education system collapses completely?
