Mill Rd is thriving right now Paul and the nighttime economy is taking off. Your example of one retailer has lost 80% of their trade, needs to be verified publicly. The continued arguments by a handful of the 152 traders that operate on Mill Rd about the bridge restriction is almost getting boring. Arguing against a measure that has increased walking, cycling and helped buses run in time is similar to arguing for smoking or celebrating global warming. Even before Harold Wilson talked about a 60’s car, which would travel at 60 mph and do 60 miles per gallon, and ‘Friends of the Earth’ warned ‘Cars Cost the Earth,’ we have known that fossil fuels are destroying the planet. Restricting Mill Rd Bridge has reduced car use (across the city). More importantly, it has increased cycling and walking, and the buses run on time. The decision to restrict Mill Road Bridge was taken after three consultations, in which only 17% wanted the bridge to be open and a City election rejected an ‘open the bridge candidate.’ Those shop keepers who argue against such a majority of voters, are unlikely to encourage customers. This is especially true for grocers. Ignoring that two large new supermarkets have opened in Romsey and the Coop and Sainsbury’s have opened stores in Petersfield, whilst blaming a lack of traffic because the bridge is restricted, may also be less than honest. Residents celebrate our local traders. But they may do well to consider if 4 new supermarkets on Mill Rd and two at the station are responsible for a reduction in trade, rather than a bridge restriction that has significantly helped our 53 cafes/restraunt’s. 17 Hairdressers/Beauty, 15 Retail food, 10 Estate agents, 7 Charity, 6 Places of worship, 5 Cycle, 3 Tailors, 2 Chemists, 2 Computer, 2 Accountants, 1 Locksmith, 1 Carpet, 1 'Antique,' 1 Post Office, I Laundry, 1 Optician.

⭐️ MILL ROAD BRIDGE ⭐️ Mill Road is a main artery in and out of the #Cambridge. The decision to close the Bridge has a wider impact on everyone in the City and beyond. Any consultation on reopening the Bridge must recognise this ‼️ It’s time to reopen Mill Road Bridge 💪

It’s time to stop MPs having second jobs

It’s interesting that the news is reporting increasing wildfires in Spain and France (even the UK). At the same time the media are arguing for better resources to be provided to combat the destruction. WHY is there no mention of the cause - Global Warming?

I am fast moving from tacit support for Cambridge Development Corporation to opposition, since government announced they would be in control of granting planning permission and not Cllrs. Why would people leave their bins here? In an attempt to make Mill Rd look smarter, there has been a meeting with @camcitco officers to regulate bins. These bins are now left continually at the Romsey R. Could the owner please take them in?

The world is burning up. Why not leave the car at home?

Not yet a crime, in the legal sense. But definitely a moral one. How many of the drivers actually needed to be driving a car in the first place? Why didn’t they walk or catch a bus? Our world is being destroyed by our lack of thought. Our lack of caring. Why not leave the car in the best place to park it. At home!

Maria and I were over at Mercers Row the other day to investigate reports of antisocial parking in the area. Take a look at this van, which has already been ticketed several times 🚐

This is the new crime of choice. People choose to inconvenience pedestrians. To damage the pavement. To be lazy. In some places they get ticketed. In others, it’s taken as a right. And the excuses. ‘I will only be 5 minutes.’ ‘I don’t want to block the road.’ ‘I need to deliver something.’ ‘Where else can I park.’
