The Sherrill administration is proposing a temporary increase of the state sales tax to 9.6%, up from the current 6.6%, in the 30 square mile Meadowlands District during the upcoming FIFA World Cup, @MattFriedmanNJ is reporting. The proposal also includes a temporary 2.5% hotel tax in 17 counties and a 10% surcharge on World Cup match gambling revenue.
