@ripjetson9 I didn’t know Charlie but now I feel like I do. The best part of racing is the people, as @davedusick reminds us.

Around 2006 Charlie called me one day and asked if he could pay me to learn how to setup race cars. I said “just hop in the truck and go racing with me” We did about 40-50 races in 2007 and it was one of the funnest years of my life looking back. I was just in my 30’s and he was in his 60’s. It was like a father/son going down the road bonding and having fun. I didn’t get to do that with my dad. Charlie taught me alot of valuable lessons that i wasn’t aware of at the time, but i carry them to this day. He told me stories of when he was a kid, college stories, Vietnam stories, the time he got drunk and kicked out of a bowling alley in Rolla Missouri, stealing a deuce and a half and joy riding it in Vietnam. Stories he never told his family and kids, mostly because they never asked. Sometimes we as humans take for granted the things we have in front of us on a daily basis We brought out the best in each other and won some races together that year. He went on over the next several years wrenching race cars and winning races on his own after i moved on I was happy i could help him achieve his dream of racing and wrenching. But i was more happy that i got his friendship, mentorship, and was able to learn his life in a way that not even his family knew him. He was my friend, but he was more like a father to me. Our overnight drives to the next track were always the best and he set the standard for me to understand what it meant to be someone’s friend Years later he called me one day to thank me and i said “well, what else is on ur bucket list?” He said “ive never been to Eldora” September, 2012 i went and picked him up and took him to Eldora. I wish i woulda took more pics of our trip 😢 Just like you said, Charlie was a good man and a good friend! ❤️

@SprintCarcast I agree with all those points. I saw a quote that said they invested in UFC and it turned into a multi billion dollar business that moved to ESPN. I believe they want to grow the business, but your question remains… What happens when they invest and it doesn't grow?

Well, simply put this is either going to be the greatest thing that's ever happened to the Indycar Series/IMS, or the worst thing that's ever happened to the Indycar Series/IMS. Roger owning the Speedway let me know it was still in the hands of someone that loves it for everything it is. Fox owning a 1/3 is looking at it as a number. If Fox is genuinely invested in the future, that's fine, and maybe I'll come back to this tweet in a couple years and say I was wrong, but we all had high hopes for where Roger could take the series and it hasn't happened. Indy is always Indy, but without it, the series cannot financially survive. My concern is Roger is getting up there in age, and without him at the helm and his love for the speedway, this is a venture capital deal and those never turn out well.

I don't like this. Not one bit.

@ByKyleMcFadden Hey bud, I don't wanna get into some lengthy debate about details... But, just FYI, the racetrack wasn't ready. The fluff didn't delay the start… Wet track did. These guys didn't want to "just get it in", they wanted to give the PDC fans the race they deserved! And they did.

On one hand, great effort by the FALS crew to get this track ready. The other hand … they shouldn’t even be in this spot. Could easily be done by now if we cut out the fluff & moved this along. This has happened too often in our big events of late: Last week at Huset’s, last year’s USA Nats, etc. But what do I know, I’m just a writer 🤷🏼‍♂️

Hard to believe it’s officially been a year with the ole @CARSTour. The girl who walked into the first race of the 2024 season was apprehensive, lacking self confidence, doubted her capabilities and tried to give herself every excuse in the book as to why she should just stay in her comfort zone… Little did I know. Little did I know how much I would grow as a person, how quickly I would get to expand my knowledge of the sport, the amazing people I would come to know, and how many life lessons and skills I would learn on the challenging days. Ready for another season of it all, and many more🥂 Oh and, 21 days until we’re at a race track in case anyone is counting 🤞🏼
