Transforming high school requires more than isolated programs. It requires systems working together. Within 5 years, 85% of "good jobs" nationally will require postsecondary ed or credentials. A Launchpad For Life, a new report from the Commission on Purposeful Pathways lays out the vision to get students on an intentional path beyond a diploma. SCORE is proud to have contributed to this work, with President and CEO @davemansouri serving as a commissioner on the Commission on Purposeful Pathways. 🔗 strivetogether.org/what-we-do/pat…

What if school prepared children not just academically—but physically, emotionally, and environmentally—for the world ahead? In my latest Forbes column, I share what I witnessed at Tennessee Nature Academy—a free, nature-based public charter school in Nashville. Students learn beneath tree canopies. They harvest native river clay. They take part in phone-free campouts. They build resilience through real-world experiences. As a physician, conservationist, and grandfather of nine, I believe the environment shapes health. And education cannot be separated from well-being. I first learned about this work through Tennessee SCORE’s Connecting the Dots Symposium. Seeing it firsthand was deeply encouraging. Read the article: forbes.com/sites/billfris…

What’s your favorite Super Bowl commercial ever? A little Super Bowl Sunday throwback to 2008 — a Coca-Cola spot with James Carville and a friendly jinx moment. Football, fun, and the rare times we all laugh at the same thing.

So much to be proud of in education highlighted in @GovBillLee’s final State of the State address last night: outpacing the national average in K-12 results, top 5 state for gains in reading and math, laser-like focus on early literacy, and increasing teacher salaries.
SCORE@SCORE_TN

In his final State of the State, @GovBillLee highlighted Tennessee’s gains in reading and math and framed the year ahead as a new frontier for education and workforce development. We’re encouraged by proposed investments aligned with SCORE priorities, including K-12 and postsecondary funding, teacher salaries, summer learning, charter school facilities, and workforce development initiatives. We look forward to continuing our work with Gov. Lee, the General Assembly, and partners across the state to build on this momentum and deliver lasting outcomes for students in Tennessee. With three years of comparable A–F letter grade data, Tennessee now has a clearer picture of school performance trends — and the results matter. SCORE’s analysis finds: 📈 Statewide & charter grades have improved steadily 🔁 78% of schools maintained or improved their grade 🎓 CCR scores are rising, but account for just 10% of HS grades 📊 Letter grades remain correlated with school poverty 🔗 Read the full blog: tnscore.org/perspectives-a…
