@IrishTimes .@davidmcw ignores the endless number of hotels being built in some cities especially Dublin. Our cities now seem to only exist for tourists, residents are being pushed out. The plan to regenerate Dublin will make no difference.

@thejournal_ie Building data centres in deprived communities is the path of least resistance. These communities do not have the resources to challenge planning permissions.

An independent think-tank has found that nearly 90% of Dublin’s data centres are located in deprived communities. The greater Dublin area is home to 97 active or planned data centres and Tasc has launched an online map with the location of these centres. jrnl.ie/7047279

@Dexxie57 I walked from Bolton St. to Abbey St. and I passed 5-6 hotels under construction in this small area. There are already a lot of hotels in the area. Eventually, Dublin’s north city centre will become soulless. #HomesNotHotels

@DonnchaLaw Simon Coveney’s developer led Strategic Housing Development process was the reason for the surge in Judicial Reviews. FFG seem to ignore this fact.

Judicial reviews and access to law: It is a glaring flaw in our democratic model that the pursuit of justice is always available to the privileged and a great risk to the majority irishtimes.com/opinion/letter…

@thejournal_ie The redevelopment of Mountjoy Square does not include a football pitch. The redevelopment was conceived by people who don’t live in the community & want a park that is ill suited to the needs of the local community.

@MaryCarolanIT Soon, there will be even less recreational facilities in this deprived area. Football pitches located on Portland Row & Mountjoy Square will be removed for different reasons & will not be replaced.

Considering the endless number of tourist accommodation being built & the risk of overtourism, Dublin should follow Barcelona and prioritise residents & communities. theguardian.com/world/2026/may…

@EOBroin @Airbnb @IrishMailSunday The government seem more concerned about protecting the business interests of @Airbnb & illegal short term letters. They are happy to allow working people & families to become homeless.

We have a cowardly government looking out for the commercial interests of AirBnB & illegal short term let owners. We have a chronic shortage of rental accommodation & they would rather promote sheds instead of stopping illegal short term lets. thejournal.ie/short-term-let…

I am always frustrated that discussions like this about the current state & regeneration of Dublin city centre never include people who live in the city centre & understand the problems. rte.ie/radio/radio1/c…

@EXECUTIVESTEVE Tech firms are booking profits in Ireland on sales taking place in third world countries depriving these countries of tax revenues. We are plundering these countries as we speak.

Patrick O'Donovan (of all people) getting slowly railroaded into sounder and sounder positions the longer he spends in Culture is easily the funniest subplot of this particularly dreary Dáil.
TheJournal.ie@thejournal_ie

Culture Minister Patrick O'Donovan has said "plunder" stolen from Ireland and stored in museums of former colonial powers should be returned. He said there was a “compulsion” on former colonial powers to return “loot” taken from people against their will. jrnl.ie/7033168

@PBresnihan The government seems intent to allow an unlimited number of data centres despite the burden on the grid & the high prices paid by domestic users to subsidise data centres.

Since 2019, Spain doubled solar + wind capacity. Now electricity prices are some of lowest in EU. Ireland has increased RE capacity but all of this has been absorbed by DC growth. You can't talk about energy transition (including nuclear) in Ireland without talking about DCs.

More homogenous looking short term only accommodation (co-living apartments on Hill St.) in Dublin’s north inner city. The area is becoming covered in short term only accommodation. #DublinCentral.
