Watch what people do when conditions become difficult. That is where the truth lives. Anyone can talk about being committed to democracy, to serving the country/the poor when things are comfortable or goals of hiking on sunny days. But when it is cold, raining and uncomfortable, suddenly the same goals become optional. I have learned that commitment means continuing even when the environment is no longer supportive.
