@KatieKeithBarn2 Tons of great thoughts already. I'll add: There are more premium WP plugins now than ever before. It costs more to run a fairly typical WP site. Site owners can only pay so much, so they're monitoring premium plugin ROI more strictly.

Recently we've seen a big increase in refund requests for annual plugin renewals, even though we've had the same reminder emails etc. for years. Refunds for new sales have grown 22% in line with sales, but renewals are up 73% 😯 Has anyone else noticed a similar trend?

@zeeshanraza No need to imagine. I'd guess at least 50% of the websites I visit frequently already do this.

@Jtsternberg Searching for "WordPress" will never be helpful. You need to search for "WordPress [the thing I'm looking for]."

Also, I haven't done normal WP site dev in quite some time… How do you all find anything anymore? "WordPress" google results are flooded with everything-but-what-need.

@brianleejackson @wpcouponsio Congrats on making the decision. I know decisions like these aren't easy, even for plugins that aren't making much money. Every customer matters, and I know you care deeply about them. Here's to even better things for @_perfmatters & @novashareio.

It's always sad as a business owner to retire something, but it was time. 🙁 We've phased out development on our @wpcouponsio plugin. All active customers have been notified, and auto-renewals canceled (so no further billing happens). We, of course, will continue to patch bugs and fix any issues until the last subscription has expired. So feel free to reach out to us if you need any help. Long story short, it was our very first #WordPress plugin, started as a hobby, and never made much money. Due to time constraints, it makes more sense to focus all development and marketing efforts on our other plugins. ⌛ More info and timeline here: wpcoupons.io/docs/active-de…

@photomatt This begs the question... When will Gutenberg get more capable? I've been waiting since 2017. At some point, it's no longer worth the wait.

As Gutenberg gets more capable, non-Gutenberg site builders will likely need to continue raising their prices, as one is in the news for today, to maintain revenue churn in the face of higher churn and fewer new users. I don't this trend will happen for the Gutenberg-based ones.

@Humane Not sure what this can do for 699$ + 25$/m, what ChatGPT API can't do inside an app or some 5$ microcontroller and a 1$ cam... Cool idea but not sure... Thinking about making a video on how i try to replicate the pin using ChatGPT API on an ESP32, anyone interested? 🤔

Visitor: If every solution is 5 stars, why bother having stars? 🤔 @evilmotive: When all the solutions are ours (or shitty hosting), 5 stars is the minimum amount of stars.

@verygoodplugins @evilmotive Looks like their list of WordPress Instagram plugins that features a photo gallery, an image slider, and an automation tool 💩🤦‍♂️. You'll never guess who's an investor in all three.

@MediaRonLLC Thanks for this, but I'm aware of this solution and I find it 40x more laborious than it should be. It's faster with a tool like TextExpander bc I can store the span class=whatever as a snippet. But I really think there should be a simple block editor solution for this.

@davewarfel When you open the block options (the 3 vertical dots), you can edit as html. Add the span where you need to, then switch back and edit visually.

How do y'all add inline <span> tags with CSS classes to the WordPress block editor? I want to make some words look like a UI button or add a highlighter effect. This shouldn't be *this* hard. #wordpress #blockeditor #gutenberg

@CristianRaiber Because I'm using CSS custom properties, I could just change that if I decide in the future, but just a simple class would be less code and so much easier to manage via a main CSS file. And I want to use multiple inline text effects, not just one. 2/2

@CristianRaiber The default "highlight" feature in the block editor adds this: <mark style="background-color:var(--pink-1)" class="has-inline-color">starting</mark> 1/2

@coreymaass @tonyzeoli That's actually a pretty good analogy. I avoided the block editor for 3 years while it was "still in beta," and have been desperately trying to adopt it (because to use WordPress, we basically have to). And yet it STILL feels clunky & premature.

@tonyzeoli Just gimme a grey box I can type into. Gutenberg is like you’ve asked me to write a few paragraphs and instead of a piece of paper, I have to use construction paper, glue and glitter sticks for each paragraph.

Why do some WordPress folks pine for the Classic editor? That’s like buying a horse and buggy when we have electric vehicles.

@innerwebs Love it. Respect the hell out of it. But it's hard to pull off because of human psychology. I do think it's possible, but the company has to be exceptional in every way (branding, product, support, community). If they nail those, it could work.
