On this day in 2008: production starts for Tesla’s first vehicle, the Roadster.

@elonmusk and his team @Tesla have really let down Tesla investors. For the past year, while other stocks soared, Tesla has been painfully stagnant. The main reason? Musk and his leadership team. They have elite engineers, but they're being dragged down by terrible PMs and management. Otherwise, the stock would easily be over $700 by now. Musk and his team owe investors a real apology. Even the Tesla bloggers keep posting "good news" but it’s getting increasingly awkward and embarrassing. They only continue because Tesla content still gets traffic. As I’ve said before, the two big problems are: 1. Constantly leaking key technology, helping competitors catch up fast: 1_a. They hyped AI end-to-end way too early. Now many automakers (like the new Mercedes CLA) have caught up. The CLA already feels more luxurious, and its self-driving is getting very close to FSD. Plus its hardware is stronger than HW4. 1_b. If I were Nvidia, I’d immediately use Tesla’s own idea: turn idle cars into AI servers for rent. Tesla can’t do that yet with HW4, but others will steal the market first. 2. Endless broken promises: Robotaxi, Roadster, Optimus — almost everything gets delayed. Supporters and bloggers get excited every time, only to be disappointed again. It’s painful to watch. Musk, why does your team keep tormenting your own supporters like this?

Today in 2008, Tesla began the regular production on its first car, the Tesla Roadster. Also, a reminder that there's one Tesla Roadster in an elliptical heliocentric orbit crossing the orbit of Mars.
