@LarAtLarian There is no ethical way to use generative AI in game development. Zero is the only acceptable amount. Ideation is what humans do best. Don't kill Larian's good name like this.

Holy fuck guys we’re not "pushing hard" for or replacing concept artists with AI.
We have a team of 72 artists of which 23 are concept artists and we are hiring more. The art they create is original and I’m very proud of what they do.
I was asked explicitly about concept art and our use of Gen AI. I answered that we use it to explore things. I didn’t say we use it to develop concept art. The artists do that. And they are indeed world class artists.
We use AI tools to explore references, just like we use google and art books. At the very early ideation stages we use it as a rough outline for composition which we replace with original concept art. There is no comparison.
I talked about how we use ML here if you would like to know more:

We've hired creatives for their talent, not for their ability to do what a machine suggests, but they can experiment with these tools to make their lives easier.

If the Moon is visible where you are right now, go look!! It should be a lovely deep red, illuminated not by direct sunlight but by the light of all the sunrises and sunsets of the Earth while in its shadow. #LunarEclipse2021

@meganroseruiz I'm with you. It's great that so many people take joy in their creations, but I personally can't imagine creating a character who isn't part of a larger work. It's an alien concept for me.

@TrystanFalcone Also a young Jacky Dragon, an unidentified dragonfly, and an Australian Green Mantis,

@Cacophanus PS: your "act of hubris" comment makes you look like you're trying to put your present self on a pedestal, congratulating yourself for becoming a "real developer" while devaluing the work of those around you.

As someone that worked in testing, I would never have claimed I was a developer. To do so would have been a monumental act of hubris and clearly fuelled by insecurity. Actually making a game is an entirely different field of expertise. I speak from experience.

Pretty sure the team that localized FF14 (or any of hundreds of other games) would strongly disagree with you and your friend. :) This is the same line of thinking that (wrongfully) says game testers are not part of game dev either.

@April_Prime @gotlegsmacro I've been told that the other huntsman is isopeda villosa. Poor spider doesn't have a common name :(
