So after years suggesting POP3 to ingest e-mail (because they can't handled forwarded mail without marking it all as spam), Google now don't want people paying for Gmail at all and are discontinuing POP3. Anyone written anything to collect POP3 and import via API as a stopgap?

@tecnoc22 @eevblog I did this with a couple of MIDI controllers once and nearly got banned. You very quickly get an e-mail from cis@amazon saying you're clearly not satisfied with their service so they'll be closing your account. Even back in 2015 they had algorithms looking at your profitability.

@eevblog I know someone who would buy like 3 different competing products, decide which one he likes best, and return the rest. Seems abusive of return policies to me, but there are people who will do it.

As a seller on Amazon, the return rate is crazy. What do people do, buy a multimeter, measure something and then return it?

Well, I don't know how anyone can use this for coding, it spit out unworkable solutions again and again even iterating on incorrect ones I'd rejected. But when I thanked it for trying, it got chatty, and redeemed itself with this comment.

If I feed the Tuya module 3V3, it springs to life, but I have better things to do that learn about solar and design my own charging circuit, in that case I may as well just build it from scratch with an ESP32C3.

I'm obsessed with Zigbee, but I can't stand changing batteries all the time, so of course I had to give this cute solar-powered rain sensor a try. No sign of life. Turns out it has no undervoltage protection or shutdown, and had been discharged to 1.6V for potentially months.

I'd previously tried this even-more expensive version, but the panels were soldered with such thin wires they'd fallen off in transit (inside a case I wasn't supposed to be able to open), and the battery inside wasn't even rechargeable anyway.

It would be dangerous to try and charge it now, and if I replaced the battery it could potentially get wrecked too. God damn Tuya crap again. They're selling it 4x my estimate of the BOM cost, so they could have spent another couple of cents on a decent IC. Model is RB-SRAIN01.

It annoys me that, for at least 30 years, silica gel packets have said "DO NOT EAT", with inverted commas like that, as if they're quoting something that they don't really believe themselves.

I did enjoy my new teeny Fnirsi HS-02A, but it doesn't compensate for eyesight.

Was keen to try this dinky little $10 hot plate, but it'll have to wait for another prototype (this board has an error thanks to KiCad DRC being so awful, so I'm not wasting an MCU on it).

Getting too old/blind to be soldering even 0805 and SOT-23, but it turns out PCBA is insanely cheap these days!
