Oh no, people perform based on metrics that they are being measured on.
The funnier stuff is to learn that some of these insanely expensive AI bills were:
- CRON Jobs disguised as AI
- Weather updates
- People using AI instead of Google Search
- AI Poetry

I can now probably say this: Two months ago, inside Anthropic someone suggested building a token leaderboard. A heated internal debate followed and the decision was made to *never* ever do it… because several people inside Anthropic simply thought ahead of the consequences

None of this is satire.
→ A company spent $500,000,000 on Claude in one month because nobody set usage limits
→ Uber ran leaderboards ranking engineers by how much AI they used, not what they shipped
→ Uber burned their entire 2026 budget by April. Their COO said he can’t connect any of it to consumer features
→ A CTO told Axios employees were using enterprise AI to check the weather
→ Microsoft canceled most Claude Code licenses because the token bill spiraled
→ Companies are now laying people off to pay the AI bill. Not because AI replaced the work. Because the bill replaced the headcount.

Humans wrote less code, mostly because we're lazy and our attention spans are limited. So the code you wrote better be good and clean. It's a data backed insight in hindsight that AI generates more and usually worse code than the top 10%. For the rest the difference is indistinguishable.

Whenever anyone complains about vibeslop I remember all the “production” codebases of billion dollar companies I’ve worked with. It’s so rare to find a repo as clean as something like Pi. Share your best oss codebase and I will poke around in there. (:

I started worrying about US dominance in tech infra.
So I did the founder thing: I stopped complaining and started testing European alternatives.
First use case: AI inference.
I built a certification layer to prove that the GPU handling my request is in Europe and that the data path does not leave Europe.
@OVHcloud first.
@Scaleway next.
More providers after that.
It worked.
Then I started publishing a European tech stack list.
But there was one stupid problem:
The repo was on GitHub which too American.
So I deployed Forgejo on an OVH cluster and started working on a scalable European Git setup that other builders could also use.
This morning, OVHcloud suspended all my projects.
They will be deleted in 7 days.
You cannot make this up.
This is the beginning of my journey to make European infra actually usable for developers and startups.
Not policy papers.
Not conference panels.
Not sovereignty theatre.
Just working infra.
