Here is a piece about plastic flow at the atomic level. "Imagine dropping a tennis ball onto a bedroom mattress. The tennis ball will bend the mattress a bit, but not permanently–pick the ball back up, and the mattress returns to its original position." www6.slac.stanford.edu/news/2022-02-2…

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory
🥳SLAC is turning 60 this year (but we don't think we look a day over 59🤷). To celebrate, we're digging into our archives to look back on some of the lab's most exciting moments. Today we're reflecting on the storied life of our 2-mile-long linear accelerator, or linac for short

This week will be my last as an energy journalist covering California. Thanks for reading and to CEM. Joy to say my writing journey continues to @SLAClab. Electrons, photons, tunnels, waves, sound, silence, the unknown.

California residents will consume about twice as much electricity in 2035 as in 1990, a forecast that reflects a growing push to electrify transportation, buildings and even landscaping equipment- in CEM No. 1677 from @davidekrause. newsdata.com/california_ene…

Judge's Alsup's final probation letter to PG&E reads like the opening of a Steinbeck novel. "Almost all of the survivors of these fires are still waiting for compensation. Many hundreds who lost their homes endure in travel trailers because they have not yet been compensated.”

This week, fire officials determined that a PG&E powerline contacted a tree and started CA's single largest wildfire, the Dixie, in July. PG&E's probation judge said, “I hate to end probation feeling as if PG&E is continuing to be a menace to society, but it's true." Story soon

CA “is a place in which a boom mentality & a sense of Chekhovian loss meet in uneasy suspension; in which the mind is troubled by some buried but ineradicable suspicion that things better work here, because here, beneath the immense bleached sky, is where we run out of continent.

Where I Was From is a book that helped me better see where I was from. Didion wrote as one should: with determination and measure. Pass her books along through time.
