Did you see how the players performed last season? Keep in mind, prior to this season, Tottenham were the tipped favourites for relegation. Relegation. Just because Postecoglou has done what Arteta took 3 seasons to do and an unlimited budget doesn’t make it an “easier project”. It means he is the better manager. When Postecoglou took over Tottenham: — Heung Min Son had the worst season of his Tottenham career. — Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma were completely left out to dry. No confidence. One of them had close to 0 Premier League starts. — Pedro Porro fell out of favour for Emerson Royal, and significantly struggled when he first got here. — Cristian Romero, the vice captain, was on the verge of leaving. — Rodrigo Bentancur had just picked up the most significant injury possible in football. The dressing room as toxic as I have seen it. Now, add losing your best EVER player. Now imagine the manager you appoint is coming in from the Scottish league? Imagine winning the World Cup and seeing a manager that had very little European experience was taking over. Players do not have the time to extensively analyse managers as we do to know how good they are. Postecoglou COMPLETELY turned the toxic situation of the club around. — Heung Min Son was poor for the first 3 games as a touchline winger. It lead to majority of the fanbase thinking he is done, based off of last season. Postecoglou shifted him to 9, and his season changed completely. He is on track to have his most prolific season to do date. — He convinced Cristian Romero to stay, and now he does not want to leave. — He completely rejuvenated a Pedro Porro who was playing wing back, and looked lost, to one of the best inverted fullbacks in the league. — Pape Matar Sarr went from a “player that will be sold to France in the next 2 years” to one of the best young midfielders in the world. — He rejuvenated Yves Bissouma to the Brighton Bissouma. — Rodrigo Bentancur picked up injury, after injury, after injury. Postecoglou still has him playing to a similar quality to majority of the top midfielders in the league. — He acquired Destiny Udogie. Again, an overlapping fullback and wingback. He also converted him into the best left backs in the WORLD. All in 10 months. — £50 Million for Brennan Johnson was seen as comical. An unproven Nottingham Forest lad. He is having a more prolific season than Gabriel Martinelli, and is towards the top of the assists charts. Which shows he is doing his job under Postecoglou perfectly. — He turned Richarlison, a player who had scored only 1 goal in his entire Tottenham league career, to be able score 8 goals in 8 games, and have one of the most prolific runs of form in the league, whilst half of Tottenham were out. — The data wanted to sign Edmond Tapsoba. Ange Postecoglou said no, and insisted on signing Micky Van De Ven, who is now the 2nd best centre back in the entire league. Tottenham had a difficult rebuild. It just seems easy because Postecoglou has done a better, more sophisticated job of profiling his players properly than Arteta ever did. That’s why it took him 1 year.
