A scholar from the right-wing Claremont Institute cowrote Florida's Black history standards. It's the same radical think tank where John Eastman, an architect of Jan. 6, works and Christopher Rufo, who fabricated the notion that CRT was taught in secondary schools, served.
David Heath@davidhth

Gov. Ron DeSantis said Florida’s new African American history standards were crafted without political influence. But there’s evidence authors may have been chosen for their far right-wing political views that align with DeSantis’s own fringe views of Black history. Thread🧵

@JillianMichaels @CNN You're nitpicking one poster in isolation that has nothing to do with slavery, which you minimized. It says "sometimes" the U.S. "contributed" to Latin Americans fleeing in search of democracy. When you support a coup, it can lead to a revolution.

Ok... so for anyone watching me on @CNN tonight battling it out on Abby Phillip's show... this is one of the Smithsonian exhibits I was referencing. Trump is not trying to "erase slavery" by suggesting some of the instillations there are inaccurate and bias. Notice how it omits the central fact that Cubans fled Castro’s communist regime, instead framing the crisis solely as the result of U.S. support for dictators—a misleading oversimplification. While the U.S. did back Batista—an unpopular and corrupt leader—mass emigration began after Castro seized power in 1959. Cuba became a one-party communist state allied with the Soviet Union; political opponents, journalists, and business owners were jailed, executed, or driven into exile; private property was nationalized; dissent was criminalized. Like the rest of the exhibit, this framing reduces a complex history to a narrative in which the United States alone destabilized the developing world. I oppose interventionist U.S. foreign policy, but this is not an honest or complete portrayal of what happened in Cuba. Period.

Trump is now pardoning a guy who set up a dark network to sell drugs. Evidence during sentencing showed that he was also involved in attempted murder for hire schemes. And Trump’s reason is that the criminal was prosecuted by some of the same people who prosecuted Trump.
Yashar Ali 🐘@yashar

BREAKING The President has granted a full pardon to Ross Ulbricht. Ulbricht was convicted on seven charges related to his role in creating and operating the Silk Road, a darknet marketplace. Charges included conspiracy to commit money laundering, conspiracy to commit computer hacking, conspiracy to traffic narcotics, and engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise (often referred to as the “kingpin charge”).

People are asking great questions! So voyeurism (filming/photographing people and their private parts without their knowledge or consent) is prohibited under federal law currently only in certain "maritime jurisdictions" in other words only on ships is it illegal federally. Which would not encompass most cases. Extremely narrow and extremely limited, nearly useless. There is no civil tort or civil right of action for voyeurism at the federal level either. I have legislation to fix both of these issues. Every state is different however, and state laws vary. My home state is very weak on voyeurism laws.
Nancy Mace@NancyMace

In the Aiken voyeurism case, the guy had over 20k videos and the property was an AirBnB. I have a bill to make voyeurism illegal federally under Title 18. We also need the South Carolina legislature to toughen our state's voyeurism laws, which btw are a joke. Videotaping or photographing someone without their knowledge, permission or consent does REAL damage and the consequences should ensure the peeping tom never does it again, to anyone, ever. fitsnews.com/2024/12/06/top…

@lhfang Biden has instituted severe restrictions on asylum seeking that bars any entry from several countries without advance permission and entrance at an airport. Recently he instituted more restrictions that have dramatically cut encounters.

@lhfang Encounters at the border does not equal illegal immigration. Asylum seeking is not illegal. There are refugee crises in several countries. These numbers involve double counting from migrants turned away who crossed again. And it doesn’t subtract those stopped or deported.

@elonmusk Giving a path to citizenship to undocumented aliens was a bill that was negotiated by four Democrats and four Republicans. It passed the Senate in 2013 with 15 Republicans joining the Democrats. The four Republicans were Rubio, Graham, McCain and Flake.

The goal of citizenship for all illegals is very clearly stated by the leader of the Senate. For some reason, a lot of people still think this is some crazy conspiracy theory!

Radical Oklahoma Superintendent Ryan Walters absurdly claims teacher unions are taking orders from President Joe Biden to teach children to hate Jews. "We have never had a more pro-terrorist, anti-semitic, anti-American president than Joe Biden."

@SharylAttkisson That’s exactly what Biden said. The U.S. will assure no delays in rebuilding but the shipping company remains liable.

This may have been asked and answered but why would the US immediately announce we'll rebuild the Baltimore Key Bridge at taxpayer expense rather than rightly pursuing the company (and its insurer) to pay. They should also pay for the costs of lost business at the Port, etc. Maybe the city can pursue that. The right response might have been: "We'll make sure a big, beautiful new bridge is built, and we'll make sure those responsible will pay for it." Thoughts?

Do you know what the 22 countries ranked ahead of the U.S. in happiness all have in common? Universal healthcare. Turns out people are happier when they don’t have to choose between food and seeing a doctor.
