NEW: Conductor accidentally knocks a violin worth over $1,300,000 out of a soloist's hands with his baton during a concert. Matthew Halls was conducting the Bruch violin concerto at Lahti's Sibelius Hall in Finland. Elina Vähälä, a soloist, was playing a rare 18th-century Guadagnini violin, worth over a million pounds. "I must be a ninja," Vähälä said following the incident while talking about how she minimized the impact with her foot. "Miraculously, the violin got no cracks, no scratches even," she continued. "The glue between the top and the ribs gave in, as it’s supposed to do, in order to protect the top and the back from cracking during humidity changes." "Or as we discovered, from an impact. The guardian angel of old Italian instruments was present."
