@path_dependent Seems completely reasonable to me. We all benefit from public expenditure, and we all have responsibilities to others.

I remain of the relatively unpopular view that everyone including median earners needs to pay more tax. Within a progressive system, obviously theguardian.com/politics/2023/…

I am happy to announce that I have started working as Associate Professor at the Department of Business Administration in Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. It was a pleasure to work @MohnCentre and it will be a pleasure to be part of building the new university.

@woohooctopus But when were they invented? Someone tried to tell me they're traditional but I've no memory of them.

@militaryhistori Absolutely. The library needs to be big enough to hold all of my books, as well as my guitars, a large desk and some appropriate reading chairs.

@path_dependent Of course national treasures have to be in London. After all if they were elsewhere the London elites would have to travel to see them. That probably wouldn't be a bad thing.

Thought about going to see the Lindisfarne Gospels in Newcastle at the weekend and remembered this from a former local university vice chancellor. A classic piece of place based leadership.

@jacquep Proud to be a remainer/rejoiner. I'm just very sad that my predictions that it would all end in tears are coming true. The British people were lied to, there are no positives from this.

Good morning from the only Brit not in THE Queue. Rather embarrased about it, really, but I am with you in spirit. Despite the digital age, after a three-hour drive & a briefer queuette, the Embassy in Zagreb now has my signature in their Book of Condolence

@DylanIsWriting Per shelf? I do agree that it can be hard to find books when they are double stacked.

@euyarra @infyde I worked with Jaime back in the early 90s. He was a lovely man, always with a smile, and very knowledgeable. I'm really sorry to hear he has passed. My condolences to all who knew him.

Very shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of Prof Jaime del Castillo. He was and incredible mentor and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity he gave me to develop as a researcher in regional development early in my career. elcorreo.com/especial/obitu…

@greynowfire @SomeAreDead Solar is perfect for Australia as peak demand is driven by air con. Use seems to be growing so not sure where your information comes from.

@SomeAreDead In Australia they're actively moving away from solar because they get too much input during the day and can't manage it - so they turn the input off. It's ok at night tho. Green energy is currently a con. You don't know this? I thought people would be more switched on by now.

Can someone tell me why my 100% green energy electric contract has gone up so much? There’s a guarantee it uses no gas or coal in its production. Surely therefore technically it is costing no more to produce than a year ago

@stephenkb Interesting to see that Tom leaves out Newcastle in his map. It kind of reinforces a Northumbrian perspective that even the Northern Powerhouse often forgets about us. But then we are a lot further North!

I've realised I need a term I can easily search for very good pieces I want to write about later, and I've decided that term is going to be 'Excelsior!'. tomforth.co.uk/northernlands/
