On July 19, 2021, a Cessna 180 was involved in an accident during a takeoff attempt from a rough field near Brenham, Texas. The pilot had previously landed short of the runway due to fuel exhaustion and refueled the aircraft with fuel purchased from a landowner. The pilot then attempted a downhill takeoff from the rough terrain. Witness video showed the airplane bounce multiple times during the ground roll, briefly becoming airborne before settling back onto the field. The airplane then pitched up, struck a barbed wire fence, climbed slightly, and descended while veering left before colliding with terrain. The aircraft sustained substantial damage to the left wing and horizontal stabilizers. The pilot was not injured. The NTSB determined the probable cause was the pilot’s failure to maintain control of the airplane during takeoff from a rough field 📸 runthisshitt
