@EricTopol @AuneDagfinn Meat == animal fat, i.e. highly caloric. Largely unconstrained availability of animal fat == preponderance for obesity == increased risk of type 2 diabetes. These studies only make sense for practical purposes when you compare diets of the same caloric size.

@NutritionMadeS3 "Red meat does not cause t2d" is obvious -- proof: Vegetarians who never eat red meat get t2d.

IMO balance of evidence agrees red meat does not cause t2d but this type of logic sets everybody back. this panders to a lay audience but is scientifically vapid foods that don't raise glycemia could (some do) raise risk of t2d. this is not how we draw scientific conclusions
