@apow8 100% - this is proper transport orientated development. University Way is necessary for people across the city to access the station.

@davidtobin100 It's also very important to point out Dave, that with the new train-station being built in Moyross, it would essentially only be a train stop without University Way. With University Way, it becomes a transport hub with direct access to all local amenities on the Northside.

Woodview residents argue the Coonagh–Knocklisheen Road means Moyross doesn’t need a direct route to TUS. 48% of Moyross households have no car vs 10% in Woodview. "Just drive" isn’t an option for everyone. Equal access means routes for walking and cycling as well.

Medellín, Colombia dropped its city's warming temps by a whopping 4 degrees Fahrenheit. How? They created "green corridors" of trees and plants throughout the built city. It cost $6.50 per resident, and will save the city millions of dollars each year. We need more of this!

“If there’s less traffic in the area, it just makes it nicer to live in.” Paul’s experience reflects what many residents across Limerick–Shannon Metropolitan Area want: safer, calmer, more people‑friendly streets. The Walking and Cycling Index shows that the residents support child-safe neighbourhoods, including traffic-reduction targets and measures to reduce through traffic and speed: 73% think wider footpaths would make it easier for them to walk or wheel* more 80% would like nicer places along streets to stop and rest, like more benches, trees and shelters 83% say better footpath accessibility, like level surfaces and dropped kerbs at crossing points would help them walk or wheel more 76% support reducing speed limits on local roads in built-up areas to 30 km/h 69% of residents support building cycle tracks physically separated from traffic and pedestrians even where that means less room for other traffic. *Some people who use a wheelchair or a mobility scooter may not identify with the term walking and may prefer to use the term wheeling. The Walking and Cycling Index 2025 is Ireland's largest and most detailed survey of walking, wheeling and cycling habits. Developed by the National Transport Authority in partnership with local authorities and the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust the Index provides a powerful evidence base to inform Ireland's mobility priorities. @moranjohna1 @limerickpost It was an overwhelmingly positive reception in the room. The only mild criticism from cllrs and SPC members was a desire to go bigger and faster with the vision! Good to see everyone pulling in the same direction on PT - need to see national investment match!

Delighted to see the start of construction for the St Paul’s to Ballykeefe Active Travel project this morning! An important link between Fr Russel Rd and the SCR route. It will also serve as an important connection for so many businesses and schools. #ActiveTravelLimerick

John Moran, Mayor of Limerick
This community told me they have been waiting 30 years for this wall to come down. But we know this one tho important is still within Moyross. Thursday was just a practice for me for the even more important wall we need to remove between communities in our city. @MoyrossAlliance
Mayor of Limerick@Mayor_Limerick

🏉 A new phase of development at @RFCThomond will see the wall between the existing pitch & new pitch removed, to create more space. 🧱 Mayor John Moran was on hand with Cllr Frankie Daly & representatives from Martin’s Construction & the club to mark the project’s first steps.

Yvonne cycles with her children practically every day - to school and to work. They start the morning with clarity instead of traffic. The positives? Reliable travel time. Safe routes for kids. A better start to the day. The challenge? Linking things up. The residents of Limerick Shannon Metropolitan Area agree: the latest Walking and Cycling Index shows widespread support for safer, connected active travel infrastructure. 69% support building more cycle paths physically separated from traffic and pedestrians, even when this would mean less room for other road traffic 83% support better footpaths accessibility, like surfaces that are level and dropped kerbs at crossing points 54% support shifting investment from road building to active travel and public transport The Walking and Cycling Index 2025 is Ireland's largest and most detailed survey of walking, wheeling and cycling habits. Developed by the National Transport Authority in partnership with local authorities and the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust the Index provides a powerful evidence base to inform Ireland's mobility priorities. To be fair, the intent was positive in encouraging civic pride and care for frontages. But the Roads Act 1993 assigns public footpaths to the road authority, aka the Council. Primary legislation can’t be undone by local bye-law.

@Tadghcrossplan @LimerickCouncil @moranjohna1 I suppose it’s a building that’s falling under the remit of a public realm project in the Arthur’s Quay framework. I imagine once there’s clarity on its use other depts will filter in for their piece. Fingers crossed for housing there.
