@jimthegiant Why? I thought Burnham was an election. Winner. Surely, to replace starmer, you've got to be confident that his replacement can win elections?

@subarustevenz Just a small point, starmer went against reform in a GE, Labour won 411. Reform 5. We know starmer can beat them, Burnham, we dont. The UK is slowly getting better after 14 years of tory decline. This week, all focus should have been on Farage. Burnham made it about him.

I need, NEED, Burnham to become PM. Thinking about HS2 and NPR being built in full makes hard.

@PippyBing I previously agreed. He did seem like one of the "good guys." But this leadership challenge and the way he's gone about it is really concerning. It strikes at his very integrity. Abandoned national politics until starmer makes they electable and then stabs him in the back

A bit of Andy Burnham lore that shows exactly why I rate him so highly. I was chatting to a homeless guy who’d fallen on hard times one late evening recently. As a long shot, I messaged Burnham. Within minutes he replied and helped. He’s genuinely one of life’s good guys.

This guy is in a complete world of his own. Open your eyes mate, literally everyone in Labour, MP and member, wants Burnham in.
Zokko@Zokko18

@DPJHodges Even if Burnham wins the byelection, he has to win a leadership contest (assuming he's got the numbers). Don't underestimate how much he is pissing off Labour MPs & members, or assume he would be the only challenger (the more candidates the harder it gets to beat the PM..)

@AVadm1n @KarlTurnerMP @DPJHodges @Keir_Starmer @AndyBurnhamGM Local election results aren't always indicative of how people will vote in a GE. And I agree with him on Jury trials, sadly 14 years of tory cuts have overwhelmed the system. That being said, changing PM now is the gift that Reform never expected!

Of course @Keir_Starmer would have wanted the NEC to block @AndyBurnhamGM again. But the reality is he doesn’t have any authority left. None whatsoever. It’s game over now. So no matter the result of the by-election we will have a new leader by the summer recess.

UK coup resignations: Blair - 7 ministers in 2006 Corbyn - 17 in 2016 coup & 10 quit the party in 2019 Johnson - 48 ministers over 5 days in 2022 Starmer - 4 ministers. Streeting's alleged 'coup' fizzled out. Puts it in perspective.

*NEW: Bloomberg Saturday read* 💥 MPs loyal to Keir Starmer say Ed Miliband and Wes Streeting both plotted against him throughout the last year, destabilising then destroying the government and plunging Britain into chaos. 💥 Miliband orchestrated Andy Burnham’s plot to become PM from within cabinet. MPs loyal to Starmer accuse Miliband of betrayal. It is being compared to when he stood against his brother for the leadership in 2010. 💥 They say it is immensely frustrating that, rather than focus on their very important jobs and rally together behind the PM at a time of global crisis, Miliband, Burnham and Streeting instead acted for personal gain to advance their own careers. 💥 Allies of Miliband, Burnham and Streeting each argue they were motivated by saving Labour from Starmer’s disastrous leadership and stopping Britain falling to Farage. They say he had become the most unpopular PM in history and there is no way he could have led Labour into the next election. 💥 But some people loyal to Starmer wish he had sacked Streeting and Miliband for their disloyalty when he learned of it last year. Some wanted him to do so at the time. Starmer didn’t, fearing instability. 💥 One senior figure expresses their complete disbelief that Labour is behaving as badly as the Tories after only a fraction of the time, descending into factionalism, regicide and collapse. They say they never thought it was possible. 💥 The left of the party is scathing about Starmer’s legacy. A senior person on the left says that from day one Rachel Reeves was out of her depth as chancellor. They say when the history books are written about the Starmer government it is Reeves who will come off worst. 💥 A source close to Starmer blames Trump as the person singularly responsible for the failure of his premiership. They say from the moment Trump was elected the global crises that followed meant Starmer was never able to focus enough on the domestic priorities of voters. They argue no PM in decades has had to deal with a threat to Britain’s interests like that posed by Trump. They wish Labour had pulled together. 💥 They say if the Democrats had won the election things would have been completely different. Starmer wouldn’t have made what he considers to be his worst ever mistake, appointing Mandelson. It was a Bloomberg News investigation that brought down Mandelson, precipitating a period of crisis for Starmer from which he never recovered. 💥 Some on the Labour right consider Starmer’s capitulation on the welfare vote to be the beginning of the end because it emboldened the soft-left to expand their plots against him and ultimately try to take him out. One says Labour has “100 Liz Trusses” on its backbenches. Investors warn a more left-wing PM will be at the mercy of bond vigilantes. Gilts and the pound slumped on Friday as Burnham’s route to power became clear. 💥 Burnham’s supporters say he will be PM by Labour conference in September. A source of widespread amusement across Labour is that Streeting didn’t have the numbers and blew it, handing the leadership to Burnham and Miliband. Those two want what they call an “orderly transition.” Recent experience of British politics suggests the chances of that are slim. @tux1234 @BenABrittain Do you think we are all going to move to makerfield in time for the by-election? If Burnham loses, it's only him. Let's not make excuses for him already. He and his back stabbing mates have been plotting long enough, of they screw it up, its not starmers' fault!

@KarlTurnerMP @wesstreeting @Keir_Starmer It's clear that the labour party hasn't recognised yet that their biggest problem is their Mps. You seem to be happier in opposition where you can protest to your hearts content and never have to deliver anything!

Good. @wesstreeting very much deserved to be considered in any leadership contest. Unlike many in the cabinet he had the honestly and integrity to tell @Keir_Starmer the truth. And when you tell him the truth you are briefed against and smeared. I’m proud of Wes. Very proud.

@RichardBurgon Starmer needs to withdraw the whip from these Labour MPs who are damaging the country. We elected a PM with a huge majority, we spoke only 2 years ago, and in your arrogance, you want to undo that and appoint a new PM who isnt even an MP. Then you complain about losing trust!

The single biggest challenge facing the Labour movement is stopping Nigel Farage becoming Prime Minister. Labour’s NEC must allow Andy Burnham to stand in Makerfield. Blocking him again would weaken Labour even further in the polls - and we may never recover.

@wesstreeting @jamesmurray_ldn Vain ambition has been the undoing of many a politician, you are just another one in a long, sad history of those prepared to destroy their party and damage the country in the hope of being prime minister. I hope of nothing else you become a cautionary tale for aspiring leaders.
