No, the idea is that people who pick up the Muslim faith end up feeling uncomfortable in their own country, like they don’t belong, and that’s what pushes them to leave. You don’t get there out of nowhere. That comes from a steady stream of messaging about who “fits,” who doesn’t, and who’s quietly being treated like a problem for existing differently. It adds up. Over time, it stops feeling like home and starts feeling like you’re tolerated at best. Then people turn around and act confused when some of them say they’re done with it. Like the atmosphere had nothing to do with the outcome. You can’t keep making people feel like outsiders and then act surprised when they stop trying to stay inside. That’s not a mystery, that’s cause and effect.
