VHSL SOFTBALL: TUNSTALL 8 GRETNA 0 — FINAL Kinslee Cassell throws a no-hitter in Tunstall’s season-opening win, striking out 17 in seven innings thrown. Cassell, Charli Eastwood and Sarah Payne lead Tunstall with two RBI each. Gianna Reamey with an RBI.

VHSL CLASS 2 GIRLS HOOPS QUARTERS: RIDGEVIEW 45 CHATHAM 44 — FINAL Ridgeview senior Danica Sunderland knocks down a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from half court to lift the Wolfpack to the wild, wild win. Advances to quarters to face Union or Liberty.

Fans have gotten their monies worth and more at this point. The Cavaliers lead 43-42 with 16.7 seconds left in the ballgame. Hearts are beating like phonebooks in the dryer at this point.

The see saw continues. Chatham starts final frame with six points for 38-34 lead but Ridgeview answers with back-to-back 3-pointers for a 40-38 edge with 2:08 on the clock.

Holy smokes we’ve got a game here in Danville. JaMya Johnson comes through with a huge steal in the back court and Giggetts finished the shot to knot things up at 34-34 with 4:38 left in game.

Ridgeview scores the quarter’s first three points but Giggetts follows with a 3 and a putback layup off Mayo’s steal. Ridgeview follows back with a 3 from Kinsley Yates for a 29-27 edge with 2:38 left in 3Q.

VHSL CLASS 2 GIRLS HOOPS QUARTERS: CHATHAM 22 RIDGEVIEW 22 — HALF Chatham’s Jakiyah Giggetts with 11 points while MarKayla Mayo has five. Danica Sutherland leads Ridgeview with 11.

Chatham currently on 6-3 run thanks to a pair of physical steals. Game is tied at 22-22 with 8 seconds on the clock.

Chatham takes a timeout trailing 18-14. Giggetts with seven for ‘Cavs so far while Mayo has three.
