Southern Protestants mostly left because their jobs were linked to the British state, or they felt an allegiance to the UK, not to Ireland. Those that remained were given special status in education and later in the 1937 Constitution. Ireland treated its British minority v well.

One of the most significant demographic shifts in the early years of the Irish Free State was the drop in the country's Protestant population, papers from a 100-year-old census have revealed. bbc.in/4sI6KTx

The people of Ireland never asked for 'British' protection of their air & sea spaces. Why would you ask the invader to protect you from the invader? This notion that Ireland needs British help is drenched is centuries old racist assumptions that we cannot look after ourselves.

@SiobhanMc80 The gaels were invaders who wiped out the indiginous population. GAA was made up to cause division.

Lots of inflammatory rhetoric about our ancient indigenous games with University Students being targeted for wearing GAA gear on campuses. It’s always a sobering & poignant reminder at Naomh Éanna that there were many “Lost Gaels”. A must read by Peadar Thompson on that loss💔

Has it occurred to some of the deniers of misogyny that it’s the current “buzz word” because there’s actual a desperate rise in misogyny? Just a thought.

I saw Tony laughing, running across the C Wing canteen tables as the Tyrone lads tried to give him the bumps for his birthday. He got out, promptly ‘weighed back’ to the Ra and got killed by the SAS. I salute his family for their long struggle. Tony was brave, and he fought. RIP

Relatives 4 Justice #NeverGivingUp@RelsForJustice

CLONOE INQUEST: Coroner to send findings to prosecutors The relatives of the men who were unjustifiably ambushed and shot dead by the SAS of the British Army 34 years ago at Clonoe Chapel in Tyrone gathered once again in a Belfast court this morning, still grappling with the emotional weight of the findings from a High Court judge serving as coroner, the Presiding Coroner, two weeks ago. Mr Justice Humphreys concluded that their loved ones should never have been fired upon that fateful night. Although coroners cannot assign criminal liability, the stark truth remains clear for anyone willing to read the final official verdict: Kevin Barry O’Donnell, Patrick Vincent, Peter Clancy, and Sean O’Farrell were effectively assassinated by British soldiers who were hiding behind a hedge in the darkness on that grim night in February 1992. Indeed, all available evidence, including forensic and ballistic data, points to that clear truth: instead of being apprehended and arrested as they could have been, these men were executed in cold blood. In light of these findings, Mr Justice Humphreys has committed to undertaking his statutory obligation to send a written report of the verdict to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) “as soon as is practicable”. This is the inevitable course of action given the weight of the evidence presented and his legal duty under the Justice Northern Ireland Act, 2002, and we welcome the coroner's decision. This is not about rewriting history; it is about righting wrongs, addressing injustices, and uncovering the truth behind the lies and cover-ups. The truth has emerged; now is the time for justice.

I have a series of questions submitted to the Health Minister about his recent trip to the USA over St Patricks Day. They are as yet unanswered despite being well past their ‘to be answered by’ dates.

Sick of the claim that GAA gear on campus is a political "statement." Students wear their county colors to banter with pals from rival teams, not to annoy anyone. It’s about sport, pride, and good-natured slagging—nothing more, nothing less. Leave the politics out of it! 🏐🏆

Foster’s focus on abuse about her father is a one-sided narrative that reeks of sectarianism. While she decries trolls, she stays silent on the relentless vitriol her ‘stallholders’ unleash on Nationalist & Alliance politicians daily. Selective outrage isn't leadership.

Interesting to hear Carl Whyte SDLP defend removal of Union flags but defend IRA monuments and Nationalist flags on basis that he is not aware of them and there are more important things than flags. Carl had an encyclopaedic knowledge on placement of Union flags.
