Man I love Notion, but I also wonder if it is hurting organizations the same way object-oriented programming and design patterns did. Everyone is chasing the mirage that one day they’ll find the right model/hierarchy, and that gives any conscientious person a high. But I have yet to meet an org that “figured out” their ideal Notion setup. Beyond note taking, maybe rigid, opinionated, fit-for-purpose software is better. 🤔

@kentdebruin Does it have to be markdown? Building something very close to this idea, albeit not markdown, but still will have an api driven agent fully capable of handling anything a user can do in the app.

This setup is obviously very early stage. I'm really wondering what this will look like when it's made for normies? Like they're obviously not going to keep context files on projects, but they do use Slack channels, so I'm very curious how the interface of tomorrow will look like where it's just very simple to use. Something where it has all your context. In my opinion, all the ingredients for a personal assistant are there: there's the tools, there's the different apps you can link it to, but there's not a killer app yet that ties those all together so people can just perform tasks. I guess that Claude's co-work is an early version of that? But in my opinion, also that is not simple enough. Like, what is the solution that you can show to anyone and they will immediately grasp? We might actually need to look at mobile patterns because mobile patterns often are able to collapse and fold concepts in a way where they're easy to understand and there's less clutter. Yeah, that might actually be a way to make this simpler.

With the terminal plugin you can have Claude code directly in Obsidian

The greatest app ever built is the Apple Notes app. No AI app will ever beat it. Nothing will ever beat it. It's almost as good as pen and paper.

As software gets easier to make, the products that stand out will be the ones crafted with uncommon care. If that's the kind of work you want to do, I'm sharing everything I know: interfacecraft.dev

@davidhoang @claudeai @obsdmd @raycast I've been trying to get excited about this but man I end up fighting Obsidian so much. Feels so clunky to use and tweets like these make me feel like I'm missing something lol.

I have tried every todo list app and now I use nothing. If it’s important it gets done, if not, it sometimes gets done and that’s fine.

folding concepts, not removing them: most products keep adding features horizontally – new tabs, new tools, new "things" – because it feels safer than consolidating. but that's how you get bloated interfaces nobody can navigate. the better way: fold concepts that should've been the same all along. when you merge "issues" and "bugs" into "database with status property", you're not taking anything away. you're revealing the truth that was always there. the trick is layers. people start with simple, familiar concepts. as they go deeper, they discover the power underneath. they're never overwhelmed because they only see what they're ready for. the hard part is the transitions. people who loved the old "bugs" tab feel like you took their thing away, even though it's still there and more powerful. you need to guide them through the folds gently. this is why single-purpose apps can't evolve. their whole identity is "we only do X". but reality is messy. concepts and roles start to blend. the future belongs to systems like Cursor and Notion that are infinitely malleable, so it could fold and unfold to match how you actually think.

@aarondfrancis People must not understand you don’t build a tool to fit a market gap, you build a tool because you want the tool.

Me: "I built something neat for my personal use case!" Them: - "Photoshop does this" - "Other tools do this" - "Microsoft paint does this" - "roflollol you're a grifter" The block button is getting a workout today 😮‍💨

I wrote zero lines of this code. I think things are changing more rapidly than I understood. I probably spent 30 minutes talking to Opus 4.5 about it, and now I have a fully functioning tool. And I'm making more tools every day. I don't think we're slowing down!
