How do you give a wild whale a health check-up? 🐋 Researchers (including our very own @dawson_t) have used drones to sample whale breath (or 'blow') to check for dangerous pathogens in whale populations in the Arctic. youtube.com/watch?v=jn8uKd…

@DavidDo71910465 @Marian_L_Tupy @BjornLomborg @Quillette Nah! We would all like to work off clean energy - but be realistic, we have to use what’s out there at the moment and renewables can’t fulfill the needs at the moment. Bjorn always pointed out that there were more immediate problems in the world than climate change!

@Marian_L_Tupy @BjornLomborg @Quillette I disagree with this article in that it treats Bill Gates as an honest player rather than a chameleon who regularly changes his colours to suit his agenda. He needs energy to power up the AI implementation, hence he has adapted to a new priorities and ditched the problem ones .

Before #rewilding was a thing, we purchased 25 acres of farmland in the south of France in 2004, and left it to natural regeneration. This year, we can observe an abundance of well-established ash trees, with oak and beech and woodland wildlife.

Did you know that local authorities can take action if a listed building is deteriorating to the point its preservation is at risk. They can issue notices requiring urgent repairs or long-term conservation. Sadly, @AberdeenCC have done nothing, given they own it 😩

Note, much of the roof has collapsed and the internal structure is very dangerous!

After years of neglect by @AberdeenCC, Westburn House, the Grade A Listed Mansion designed by Archibald Simpson, has been broken into by vandals and the interior is devastated 😢

Our first dolphin encounter in Piran Bay this year 🐬 Today, just off Piran, we encountered several familiar fins that Morigenos has been monitoring for many years. Among them were Galatea, Olaf, Natali, Neptun, Unagi, Saša, and many others. We have known some of these dolphins

@RewildScotland @NatureScot Unfortunately, we are increasing native pinewoods, but the capercaillie population continues to decline to perilous levels. Diversionary feeding is a useful strategy, but other options could be utilised in caper habitats - translocation (under licence), for example

@dawson_t @NatureScot How about allowing caper habitat to return by stopping burning the hills. Less bare grouse moor more native woodland. Oh and more diversionary feeding which has been successful. There is no way we will allow keepers to almost wipe out pine marten again.

We really need to have a sensible debate about the control of protected predators. On a Aberdeenshire sporting estate where I assist with game keeping, the increasing badger population has devastated ground nesting bird numbers ⁦@NatureScot
