Command and Conquer Generals is one of my favourite classic RTS games. It's made in 2003 but depicts a war in 2013. It has three asymmetric factions: USA, China and the fictional GLA (Global Liberation Army, basically Muslim terrorists). The game is incredibly fun and the three factions have a distinct feel. The USA has advanced tech, expensive and elite units, lots of air power. Very precise application of firepower, very mobile, but fragile. China functions like a hammer - hordes of infantry that get a bonus in large numbers, big chunky tanks, lots of artillery, nukes, flamethrowers, Cold War-era tech. I only have one gripe with the game. The GLA. They're meant to be sneaky terrorists that rely on stealth, deception, explosives, surprise and a few unique weapons like toxins and SCUD missiles. They're meant to be low-tech underdogs who use unconventional tactics to outsmart US airpower and Chinese numbers. And they do have some stuff like this. Tunnel Networks, stealth units, etc. In the actual gameplay though, they function like a light vehicle horde that just assaults the enemy directly. Wave after wave of Scorpion tanks and Quad Cannons. You really don't need any other units - these two vehicles are incredibly cost-effective and can beat pretty much anything. So, they end up being a Zerg-rush tank horde that doesn't feel at all like an insurgency. Anyone else have the same experience with this game?
