I read an amazing book, The labors of Hercules Beal, by @GaryDSchmidt. When people are in crisis, what does it look like for communities —especially schools — to respond? I couldn’t get enough of this quote and had to post it in the library. #GaryDSchmidt #cfblibraries @daviscfb

For @HISDSupe @TeamHISD a reminder - Scores of data shows that school libraries are strong contributors to student achievement, especially for most vulnerable students. Librarians do far more than check out books.

70+ years after the Civil War, the WPA Federal Writers' Project began interviewing elderly Americans who remembered being enslaved. This collection is at the Library & this narrative from Sarah Gudger, age 121, is just one amazing piece of it. go.loc.gov/j1ZG50OM6op #Juneteenth

Today is Juneteenth and marks the 158th anniversary of the last African American slaves being freed in Texas. Juneteenth (June 19th), marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed.

This week we read Alma y cómo obtuvo su nombre. Today, my students presented to their classmates the story of their name. ❤️

Dolphins, I’m doing my summer reading, too! #cfblibraries @daviscfb This poignant, well-written story deals with the scarcity of water for far too many people in our world. I love the main character, Minni (Meena). Thank you, @varshabajaj, for a wonderful and galvanizing tale!

Happy Summer #CFBISD! The DLS team loves technology, especially when it is used mindfully. Here are some ideas to set healthy screen time boundaries with your family this summer. Thanks Will Elliott @coachingwithwill for the inspiration!

@storybreathing With good reason is this your favorite! As school librarian @daviscfb, I share it yearly with my 3rd graders and make predictions based on the cover. The end blows our minds every time (after the incredible story itself)! I pair the telling with a small meteorite. #cfblibraries
