70+ years after the Civil War, the WPA Federal Writers' Project began interviewing elderly Americans who remembered being enslaved. This collection is at the Library & this narrative from Sarah Gudger, age 121, is just one amazing piece of it. go.loc.gov/j1ZG50OM6op #Juneteenth

Today is Juneteenth and marks the 158th anniversary of the last African American slaves being freed in Texas. Juneteenth (June 19th), marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people be freed.
