This headline is propaganda. Rhetorical, emotive, and deliberately incomplete. Let me give you what it leaves out. Black Americans are 18.5% of the federal civilian workforce while being 14% of the population. At HUD and the Department of Education, we are 36% of the workforce, double our overall federal representation. The Postal Service, Treasury, the Veterans Administration: all above 25% Black employment. We are not just overrepresented in government generally. We are concentrated in the exact agencies being targeted. Attempts to frame this as racism, fascism, or white supremacy returning through the Republican Party do not hold up to objective analysis. There are simply two parties with fundamentally different ideologies about the size and role of government, and when the party that wants to shrink it wins, the community most overrepresented in it absorbs the most damage. We did that to ourselves. Here is the data you need to understand how we got here: Black Americans are 12% of Congress, roughly proportional to our population. But we own 3.4% of private sector employer firms while being 14% of the population. For comparison, Asian Americans are 7% of the population and own 11.5% of all employer businesses, nearly double their population share. They did not get there by flooding into federal employment and voting for the party that expands government. They built. We have political representation. We have government jobs. But our banks, our schools, our businesses, our institutions exist in isolated pockets, not at scale. We went from building our own to working for the government and voting for the party that expands it. That’s not liberation, but a different kind of plantation with a pension. The agencies being cut most aggressively, Education, HUD, HHS, the VA, the SSA, are the redistributive administrative apparatus that a limited government constituency has wanted dismantled for decades. Black Americans are disproportionately exposed because the Marxist influenced, Democrat administered, and academically enforced ideology that replaced the Washington tradition spent 60 years telling Black America that government was the answer, the employer, the protector, and the path to equity. We believed it. Now the bill is here. The concentration of Black talent in government employment preceded Trump by decades. This vulnerability was not created by Trump. It was created by every Black politician, with few exceptions, every civil rights organization, and every academic institution that spent 60 years measuring Black progress by political representation and public sector headcount rather than by ownership, equity, and economic independence. Framing dependency as racism doesn’t fix it; it deepens it.
